hammerhead johnson
I am going against the grain here and creating a non-controversial thread. Ichiro is batting .532 in June (25 for 47), and .450 overall since he went 0-4 against Count on May 5. He has a .550 average in 18 ABs against the most promising duo in baseball (Santana/Liriano), and that includes a 1-4 performance against Johan Santana prior to his current hot streak. He would be hitting an even .400 on the season if you took away his numbers vs. Boston and Chicago (.132 AVG in 37 ABs). He is hitting .383 at Safeco, which is arguably the best pitching environment in the majors. He is now up over 2500 hits combined between Japan and the MLB, and he's only 32. The guy is just a freak. Agreed on everything except 1 thing. Playing in a park like Safeco actually helps Ichiro IMO, since he's a singles/bloopers/gap hitter who benefits from a huge outfield like Seattle in terms of hitting. But yeah, 32 is still pretty young, he can still fly, defend, and throw very well.....he may end up with over 4,000 combined hits (he could play until he's 40 IMO). Gregory Pratt
Any chance Ichiro gets traded? I heard it's what he wants, because he's got the urge to play in the World Series and the Mariners don't have the horses to make that race. Seattle is known for getting rid of its stars. Think it'll happen -- this season?

WCSox
Did Ichiro ever play CF in Japan? I realize that his strong arm makes him a good RF, but it seems that somebody with his speed, vision, and general outstanding baseball IQ would be better-used in CF. whitesoxfan101
Btw, Ichiro hit his season (and heck, probably career low that late in a season) average of .260 after a game vs. Cleveland on May 5th (day after Count owned him). Since then, here's his game by game average for the season after the game. May: .263 .270 .277 .288 .287 .290 .288 .293 .299 .297 .311 .308 .306 .314 .320 .322 .320 .314 .313 .316 .327 .323 .326 .332 June: .335 .342 .339 .341 .350 .358 .362 .364 .367 .366 .364 Also, his official at bag log starting on May 27th: 2/4 4/5 0/3 2/4 3/5 2/4 3/4 1/5 2/4 4/5 4/6 3/5 2/4 3/6 1/4 1/4 Total (16 games): 37/72 (.514 batting average) And overall, he's gained 104 points in his batting average in 5 weeks Edited June 14, 2006 by whitesoxfan101
smalls2598
Last month in my fantasy league, I lost both Rowand and Matusi with injuries on the same day (actually more like 10 minutes apart). I needed an OF and found a team who needed some power. I ended up trading Giambi for Ichiro and Brian Fuentes. Ichiro was hitting .280 or so at that time, so i've been reaping the benefits of his excellent streak. and while Giambi is hot again right now, I had nowhere to play him because i also had Konerko and Ortiz. and since that trade, I went from 7th place to 2nd place. keep it rockin Ichiro. That sounds great in theory, but then I'd need you to explain what happened in 2004. Road Average: .405 (358 ABs) Home Average: .338 (346 ABs) His 2002 splits are also kind of telling, but it's only a 30 point difference (.338 away to .308 at home), as opposed to a 67 point difference in 2004. Hmm interesting point. I never understand splits, I mean s*** Matthews Jr. in Texas is hitting way better on the road this year for example. I'll just give up and say Ichiro is obnoxious, regardless of what park he is playing in.

Weird s*** happens sometimes. Not all stats make sense. If he plays a lot of road games when he's in the zone and a lot of home games during a cold spell, that can skew the stats quite a bit either way. Plus when you think about it, even if you assumed 300 at bats either home or away (which would be pretty high), the difference between a .250 average and a .300 average would be 15 hits. A couple of falling bloopers can drastically alter things.

Benchwarmerjim
I am glad he is not facing the Twins anymore. He hit something like .600 this year against them in that series at Safeco, Ichiro has 12 hits and Joe Mauer had 9. Just an unbelievable display of hitting I saw Ichiro at a game a few years back. The man is super fast. He hit one in the right feild gap, he ran all the way to third and was standing on third a split second before the ball reached the infleid. I have never seen anyone do that

I have never seen anyone do that Yeah, I mean, 10 for 18 with a .550 average against the best young duo in baseball is insane. Consider for a minute that the Oakland Athletics, a first place team, are hitting 3 for 33 against the Santana/Liriano combo (.091 average). Just looking at some of the Liriano splits, this guy is obviously incredible: Baltimore is hitting .047 against him (1-21) Anaheim is hitting .130 (3-23) Milwaukee is hitting .167 (2-12) New York is hitting .000 (0-5) Oakland is hitting .143 (1-7) This dude has ace written all over him, and Johan Santana is arguably the best SP in the league. Talk about a headache for the Sox.
