southsider2k5
What do you say we trade Lee while he is performing? If we can get a real live CF in the deal, or a SS prospect of some kind to succeed Valentin.

witesoxfan
I've been thinking...what if we kept Valentin over Thomas??? Taking Valentin over Thomas would be like taking Cubs tickets over White Sox tickets(assuming of course you're a White Sox fan and both are playing s***ty/well). Thomas is a guy that when he gets going, not only can put up huge numbers, but can also carry a team with his bat alone. Valentin is a solid major leaguer who is mediocre all around....mediocre bat(decent power, no patience, strike-out prone, solid BA of about .250), and mediocre defense(good range, bad glove....erratic throwing, but a strong arm). If we traded Lee now....we'd need to get some very good talent in return. As SS2k3 said....a CFer or a SS. I'm not sure we could get one. We may as well keep him. Trade Konerko, and get whatever the hell we could get for him. Then resign Daubach, and promise him playing time. We'd have Thomas, Lee, and Daubach, and on a particular day, we could have Thomas DHing, Lee at 1B, and Daubach in LF, or we could have Thomas at 1B, Lee in LF, and Daubach DHing, or we could have Thomas at 1B, Daubach in LF, and Lee DHing, or we could have Thomas DHing, Lee in LF, and Daubach at 1B. Also....Maggs could get involved in this as well. If Maggs wants a day-off but is in the middle of a hot streak where he is ripping the cover off of the ball, have him DH, put Lee in LF and Daubach in RF with Thomas at 1B. Also....it's not like we couldn't have one guy sit out a game and then have someone else, say DJ, DH for a day when if we still want his bat in the lineup. That's kind of how a DH should work....not like what we and the Mariners have done, and made one guy a full-time DH. That's just not how it is supposed to work. 1549
Thomas is a guy that when he gets going, not only can put up huge numbers, but can also carry a team with his bat alone. I agree and disagree...Thomas is past his prime, even if he can still produce, this team is going a different direction and should part ways with Frank. Valentin is not a solid major leaguer, though I do agree with your analysis of him, he really does suck. He was a solid major league power switch hitter, now he is just another underachiever. If we traded Lee now....we'd need to get some very good talent in return. As SS2k3 said....a CFer or a SS. I'm not sure we could get one. We may as well keep him. No way it is possible to get a SS for Lee, there just aren't enough good ss's in the orginizations that could use Lee (such as the O's). So I say get Ponson maybe we could squeeze in a minor leaguer for Lee. Trading Konerko- completely agree, and we could get plenty more than you think. We just need to play Konerko the rest of the season, then trade him to Colorado for Aaron Cook and Juan Uribe. Colorado will be desperately looking for a firstbaseman (helton is a FA) and Cook will fit perfectly in a revamped Sox rotation. Daubach- let him walk or keep him on the bench next year, Borchard is the future, play him.

That's just not how it is supposed to work. The Mariners one 117 games doing it, we won 95 games doing it. If you have a good player, DH'ing him all the time doesn't matter. It was when Edgar and Frank weren't producing last year that it looked bad
BrandoFan
Daubach- let him walk or keep him on the bench next year, Borchard is the future, play him. Don't be fooled by the hype and incomplete stats- as of right now, Daubach is twice the hitter that Borchard is. Especially in clutch. Heck, Willie Harris might end up outhitting Joe when he comes back if he ever got the ground-ball mentality down. Nobody bats 420 in AAA over almost 90 atbats without having good skills. And, frankly, JoBo's overrated defense and nonexistent running don't overcompensate for his mediocre batspeed, loopy swing, no eye and lack of exceptional strike zone perception. He is a work in progress to say the least, and is horrible from the right side. Just a poor man's Russel Branyan.

I am saying play Borchard because he is where our future has to be. If he can't turn things around, oh well he is an expensive bust. But he definately should be playing. Daubach is at best a .270 25 75 guy. There is no sense playing a guy with no future in the orginization at this point. Imagine if the Sox had decided Ventura wasn't worth playing in 1990 when he sucked, and instead they decided to use Carlos Martinez, then when would Ventura have developed. Its the same principle with Daubach and Borchard

Nobody bats 420 in AAA over almost 90 atbats without having good skills. Only problem with that statement is that when Willie was hitting .420 in AAA he wasn't hitting with the ground-ball mentality. His 5 HR in 23 games matched the 5 he had last year in 89 games in Charlotte.

1549
Signed through 2011. As I said....I'd get whatever possible for Konerko Wow, I don't know how I missed that one. Well in that case. Trade Konerko to the Metropolitans or the Orioles.
