CanOfCorn
Getting Smoltz would be subtraction by addition. Not that Smoltz would be bad for that team, but losing the talent they would have to give up, like a Zumaya, would hurt more than Smoltz would help. RockRaines
QUOTE(heirdog @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) I wouldn't call that payback. I would call that history repeating itself. Doyle Alexander was the established vet and Smoltz was the young pitcher who had promise. If Detroit dealt Zumaya for Smoltz, they would cry again as Zumaya goes on to be a star for the next 15 or so years. Again, the caveat is that if Smoltz leads them to a WS ring (unlikely in my mind with the White Sox and Yanks amongst others standing in their way), then the trade-off might be worth it but he would have to be one of the main reasons they won. Zumaya>Smoltz The Braves would be laughing after pulling off that deal.
BHAMBARONS
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 08:54 AM) Zumaya>Smoltz The Braves would be laughing after pulling off that deal. Well it looks like all Smoltz deals are done after his injury. Looks bad
sircaffey
QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Well it looks like all Smoltz deals are done after his injury. Looks bad "It took me coming out for us to win," joked Smoltz, who does not believe his injury is serious. "I'll take it, and I'm sure the team will take it." Steve9347
Smoltz.... no Jones... yes chances of either happening... none
BobDylan
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) The Sox rotation is built on innings eaters...and Smoltz is not an innings eater anymore. He threw 229.7 innings last year. He's already thrown 111 this season.
tonyho7476
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:39 AM) If you wanted to trade for these 2, you'd have to dump salary. So that would mean you'd have to include a starter like Freddy or Jon. Jones is the type of guy KW would probably give up a BA or Sweeney for definitely as well. Doubt Atlanta will be trading either of them though. Don't get me excited by mentioning the trading of Jon.
