Heads22
Pollard: Big 12 network coming soon By: Eric Petersen 06/22/2006 Email to a friendPost a CommentPrinter-friendly Advertisement OKOBOJI - Big 12 and the other major conferences in college sports may soon join the Big Ten in launching its own television network. There has been discussion from Big 12 leaders on the topic, and it should intensify this winter when the league's television contract with ABC and Fox Sports Net is up, Iowa State Athletic Director Jamie Pollard said Wednesday following a meeting of the Iowa Board of Regents. "It's the wave of the future," Pollard said. "You can count on all the conferences around the country looking to that model. The Big Ten went first." The Big Ten's television contract was set to expire, which helped set up the deal for conference Commissioner Jim Delany. The channel will debut in August 2007 and broadcast 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Delany was its brainchild. "He's one of the brightest minds in collegiate sports or any kind of sports," said Pollard, who worked alongside Delany while at Wisconsin. "That's a big move, a bold move." The channel will broadcast some football, and men's and women's basketball games. Its primary content will be non-revenue sports and programming specific to its 11 schools, including exposure that could benefit the universities as a whole. "It's far greater than athletics," Pollard said. Copiers.
