beck72
According to: http://www.timesonline.com/site/news.cfm?n...id=478568&rfi=6 Not a bad pick up. Shouldn't cost much talent at all. Good insurance should Politte not make it back, and he'd still would have a spot. I remember him having trouble w/ giving HR's not too long ago. Only allowed 2 this yr in 30 + innings
Dam8610
I'm not too keen on picking up a 42 year old. That's more of a Yankee move.

jackie hayes
It's about depth. He's pitching well, he probably won't be too expensive. I'd be glad to see him back. Btw, on the subject of former Sox righties, what happened to Antonio Osuna? He seems to be done -- anyone know why?
CWSOX45
I want to see how Politte and Hermanson do when they return from DL. If they struggle I'd have no problem trading for him.

WilliamTell
lol current status:alive But anyways I really the guy, I miss him from the 90's on the Sox. He also shares the same birthday as me, but he's just too old I think.
Dick Allen
He looked done a couple of years ago, but has pitched well of late. It wouldn't hurt having him around IMO, and probably wouldn't cost too much. The danger here is at his age he could implode at any moment. beck72
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) I'm not too keen on picking up a 42 year old. That's more of a Yankee move. The guy is throwing well, regardless of his age. As long as the guy can get outs. He's been esp tough vs righties [ala the 2005 Politte]. beck72
Here are his stats: And, he's 41 this yr. He'll turn 42 in Nov. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=2455 Though his K's are down a bit, his 1.81 GB: FB ratio would be good for the summer months at the cell. No one is saying Hernandez is an allstar. Yet year in and year out, relievers are either hit or miss. Hernandez seems to be hitting this year. With what seems to be a very down market for bullpen help available, a team could do a lot worse than Roberto.
Jordan4life_2007
I'd love to have Hernandez back. The guy has done nothing but get guys out the last year and a half. He'd make our bullpen argubly the best in the AL.

elrockinMT
42 years old is NOT OLD. Now if we picked up Yogi Berra as the backup to Perz That's OLD! Roberto Hernandez might be a pitcher that can fill the set up role for the 7th and or 8th innings leading up to Jenks. But, I like what Riske has done and if Politte can pitch like we know he can I don't see a need. But, if Politte can do it than maybe Hernandez would be a good pick up. GoodAsGould
Even if we signed him he would probably be the last guy out of the pen. So who cares if he is old when now with the pen shaping up it seems whoever we turn to besides montero/politte they have been successful. beck72
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) We'd only have him for the rest of the year. I couldn't find the green. Roberto seems to have done well the last yr and half I agree. If the sox can't find a bullpen guy for the future [which will be hard, though Riske has some upside], better to get a one yr rental. witesoxfan
I don't see what the risk would be in getting Hernandez. You're gonna give up a fringe prospect at the most, and he could be a big part of the pen down the stretch. If he sucks, you're losing a fringe prospect or perhaps just cash, because this is the type of deal that tends to be a PTBNL/cash Why the hell not? knightni
Heard this rumor on the ESPN broadcast last night. Mostly in passing by Miller.
southsider2k5
To be honest, unless we have a chance at a top notch guy, with the way our pen is rounding into shape, plus having Politte coming back soon, I don't see the need to make a deal. GoSox05
I would only make this deal if it looked like Politte is gonna get it done.

spiderman
I say go after him....If Politte can't get his act together, Hernandez can take his innings.
vandy125
I don't know about sending too much for him. I don't like the switch from NL to AL that he will have to do.
