shoota
Disclaimer: I am ignorant to the contract statuses of most MLB players not on the White Sox. I like the Riske addition, but I still would like another solid bullpen arm. Juan Rincon is having a good season, and with the gap between his Twins and Sox/Tigers, they might be willing to deal if the gap holds a month from now. If Politte does not return as a quality bullpen pitcher, I'd like to see the Sox trade for Rincon. Though if either of Politte and Hermanson can satisfy that need, a trade isn't needed. Rincon has a 1.40 era with 35 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings. With Atlanta 13 games under .500 and in last place, I wonder if they'd be open to trading Edgar Renteria, who is hitting .303 with a .387 OBP. Heck, even Omar Vizquel is hitting .307 with a .392 OBP. He's old, but knows what to do on a baseball diamond. Unfortunately for us, his team is still in the playoff race in the weak NL West. Are any of these options realistic? R.J.
It's unlikely that we'd work out any kind of deal with the Twins, and they're actually playing good enough baseball that I'm sure they'd ignore any gap in the standings until the last possible minute. Vizquel is a candidate to be traded but you mentioned that the Giants have as good a shot as anybody to win the crapshoot that is the NL West, and with the pariah they have in LF every day I don't see them throwing in the towel despite their many "veteran" trading pieces. If Barry gets significantly hurt they'd probably move Vizquel because he's in the last year of his deal. As for Renteria, he still has years left on his contract, and that's a contract I want no part of. He's making around $10-12M/y
BigSqwert
QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) I'd like to see the Sox trade for Rincon. I'd like to win the lotto.

On Rincon, the Twins are looking damn good for the near future and Rincon is going to play a large part in their run next year. With their new and improved rotation/hitting they're primed to make a run at the division next season, there's absolutely NO reason for them to trade the 27 year old Rincon, especially to a division rival. Plus he's a steroid user. On Renteria, he's not an American League hitter, in order to be successful he needs to be in the National League, he proved this last year. Plus the fact that he's making $9M in '07 & '08 plus an $11M option for '09.
Dick Allen
Rincon is another steroid boy. I don't see the Twins giving up. With Santana and Liriano right now basically locks to win their starts, if the rest of the rotation goes .500, they play .700 ball. Its unlikely they will be able to do that, but I think they see the light at the end of the tunnel and probably want Rincon for next year, or if they deal him, deal him to someone other than a division rival.
