CYGarland
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) I'd take Liriano and Santana over any of our SP right now, and it's not close I'd wait on that Liriano talk, i'd like to see how he holds up over a full season 1st. RockRaines
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) Point is they haved killed eveyone for the entire month. There aren't a lot of good teams out there. We lose games to bad teams which can hurt us at the end of the year when we are battling for a playoff spot. Umm, we have killed everyone for a month, where have you been?
Greg Hibbard
Again, I'm a little shocked that people are jumping off ledges about a team still on pace to win 103+ games this season.
LVSoxFan
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) Being critical of calls from the dugout or play on the field--especially play against a far inferior opponent--and needing to back off the ledge are near polar opposites. Use some baseball acumen here, folks. It's a shame because guys like Anthrax--who between incoherent ramblings had some very appropriate critcisms of a ballclub that went tailspinning before marching on to a title--get run out of here. Intelligent baseball discourse has reached record lows on our belov'ed site. Oh c'mon! Everybody's MORE than welcome to criticize the calls. What I'm reacting to is people obsessed with the Tigers/Sox race this early and treating a should-win game loss like this as a freefall. It's one game. Or that we're always going to beat teams we SHOULD beat. What league have you guys been watching? But as far as second-guessing Ozzie and Politte and everything else that went wrong today? Have at it. Sounds like a lot of the criticism is warranted (I didn't see the game).

I can only speak for myself but although we have won at a great pace in the last few weeks we do have some concerns on this team. The starting pitching is nowhere near as good as they were hyped up to be. I rarely have the feeling that the opponent has no chance to do anything against our starter. They rarely take a game into the 8th inning and this has Ozzie rely on the bullpen in every game. The bullpen has been solid as of late but they will wear down at this pace. Intelligent baseball discourse has reached record lows on our belov'ed site. Just because everyone isn't running to embrace you upon your triumphant return, doesn't mean the conversation is lacking. Its too bad to see your time hiding away from here didn't help you to learn to take the good with the bad over a 162 game season, or that showing up to throw a temper tantrum isn't going to make you many fans of what you have to say. Yeah the team didn't play well over this series, we all watched the same games that you did. But I am not sure what how you expect people to react when we are in a stretch when we have won 16 of 20 games, including 8-2 in the last 10, yet only show up after a loss? Did you expect people to shower you with roses? Maybe even if you were hear respectfully discussing things that were wrong during the winning streak, you would have been met with a little more respect, but seeing as you really didn't show anyone who disagreed with you any respect, I don't get why you are so upset at people's reaction to your posts. And finally its a 162 game season. Over the course of that season I'll bet there are 10 games this team loses, that they should not have lost. Guess what, it happens. I don't get the point about getting all mad about it. Yeah it sucks, but learn something from what Ozzie said a couple of years ago when he said, go out, get drunk, and come back tomorrow. If, there is no sense in brooding over a loss for the players, why should a bunch of nothing message board posters have a worse reaction? LowerCaseRepublican
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) YEP THOSE TIGERS ARE GOING TO RUN THE TABLE!!! SEASON OVER!!! Lighten up, people. But we lost a game to Pittsburgh! That's it! Blow this team up! They proved that they're not able to win effectively anymore. Just have a massive firesale. Perhaps we could maybe get Kerry Wood for Thome and Kong. Or maybe we can just get our hands back on HOF catcher Miguel Olivo again. I mean why wouldn't we want that Hall of Famer? Scary part about the above is I could remove the green and it'd be serious for some posters around here. Christ... -You have people on this board expecting 60 HRs from a player and are disappointed when it doesn't happen. -We're 24 games over .500 right right so there is no need for all the Chicken Little-isms that one loss to Pittsburgh is going to mean that we'll suddenly not get into the playoffs *cough Wild Card lead cough* -Just like there is no attendance award -- Correct me if I'm wrong here but there is no award for winning the most games in the regular season. As long as we get a spot in the playoffs, that's what matters. It gets us an opportunity to win another championship. That said, continue jumping off the ledge about how we're suddenly going to become the new Royals.
GoRowand33
heres what I think 1. Don't worry about the Tigers, they are legit so its up to us to show were better instead of waiting around for them to lose 2. We lost one game. get over it, it was a constructive loss at the very least 3. No one should freak about a loss that isn't in september or october, we have plenty of time to even out the score against bad teams 4. Anyone who says the Tigers will crash and burn because they can't beat good teams is a hypocrite, because thats what they said about us last year

beautox
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) Okay, I am the last person to throw around the "doom n' gloom" tag but Jesus, people, relax! I figure these points are best made using bullets. -Yes, I agree about Politte. He's been given a few chances now to "find it" like he did in 2005 and he's blown them. Just like after that Cleveland series with Shingo last year (remember?), this may be the end of him. And as much as I loved Shingo, I knew after that game he was outta here -FORGET the Tigers. Even Ozzie has said this. You have to deal with every game at hand and in the end let the chips fall where they may. Yes, if you keep winning at least every series (which is the damn goal, people), we are sitting pretty. Y'all will go INSANE if you're constantly eyeballing the Tigers when we're not even at the ASB yet and they've not had a slump yet this season. -As for this "guaranteed win" status of Pittsburgh, huh? The thing of baseball is that on any given day any team can beat any team, no matter how good each is or how the game's "supposed" to go. Pittsburgh? Yeah they suck, but so does KC and I've managed to see us lose to them three times, in person, out there. When they were brutal. That is baseball, people. Sometimes the Pirates will beat us, sometimes KC will, Tampa Bay seems to always... sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you. In the end what matters is the final tally. Not going apes*** over what should have been an easy win and is one game. IMO there is no such thing as an easy win. Everybody thought St. Louis/Sox would be a hell of a matchup and we crushed them like they were... Pittsburgh. Go figure. This is not news, this idea. SO GET OFF THE DAMN LEDGE ALREADY. Thanks for saving me 5 mins and summarizing my feelings. People need to sit back, relax, and put on Yo Mtv Raps! Seriously no team is invincible remember our sox of last year? things were going great the first half and then the wheels fell off for a bit, don't think that won't happen to the tigers, Verlander has never gone over 130IP, Robertson/Rogers are maso menos in the second half, just wait for the Dog days. The tigers haven't been there recently the Sox have. I look forward to Freddy/Vazquez/Garland turning it around after the ASG, it took Coop some time to get Jose turned around i expect the same for Vazquez. Detroit has 13 games left with us and im not sure how many left with the Twins. The twins will be the equalizer in this division so relax.
