zygoat
I saw the boxscore today adn who got the loss and my heart almost stopped. Cliff Politte gave up a walk off HR to somebody (not good) on the pirates. I worry for him and i thought he would be better after coming off the DL (Granted i have to give him some time to get back into swing). I also remember Montero pitching extremely tough against the pirates last night and that got me wondering if politte should build up his confidence in AAA while Montero stays with us. Just my thoughts, what about you guys

Montero, while better than Politte, is not the solution either. The fact of the matter is we have one major concern in the bullpen that we can't really solve internally. Just my thoughts, what about you guys I don't believe for one minute Politte's DL stinct was due to "shoulder inflammation." I expect immediate contributions from him. Sanchez may have herpes, and may have a magic wand, but I know from this series no other pitcher gave up a HR to him. Only five on the season to date. Not a homerun hitter. Perhpas with another pitcher I"d be willing to accept the pitch as poorly placed. Or credit Sanchez all together. But this is what Politte has done all year. Personally, the entire issue of building up confidence is really a joke. When people were worried about how Tracey would respond following Guillen's tirade I said if he doesn't rebound, he doesn't deserve to pitch. I wasn't going to feel any sympathy towards his situation. And what did he do shortly following the demotion? Threw one of the best games of his career. He's tough. What could a trip to AAA possibly accomplish for Cliff? Does he need 'confidence' by throwing inside pitches to AAA players? f*** that. He's not a prospect anymore. If he can't pitch well, he can leave this team. Edited June 29, 2006 by Flash Tizzle
tonyho7476
Middle Relief is a crap-shoot from year to year. These guys are usually the most unconsistent players from year to year. He'll be great again in '08.
Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Middle Relief is a crap-shoot from year to year. These guys are usually the most unconsistent players from year to year. He'll be great again in '08. Hopefully for another team. You're right about the inconsitency of middle relief for everyteam not named Minnesota. I've adopted a new philosophy from watching Politte -- if you're a veteran with 5+ years experience, and have a career year, you should be traded immediately. For what it's worth - the guy who I split my tickets with says he was sitting next to a friend of Politte Saturday and he told him Politte has bone spurs in his shoulder and should have surgery but wants to put it off till the end of the season since it is his walk year. If thats the case, trade for someone, then designate him for assignment. Putting him in games is dangerous.

This doesn't sound like a player with the team's best intentions in mind. Hopefully the Sox can pick someone up soon to fill in Cliff's spot. He is going have to suck it up, have the surgery, and hope to get invited to someone's camp next spring.
fathom
I'm just grateful he was so great last year. He's washed up, but at least he gave it his all for the World Series run.
