shawnhillegas
I love Phil Rogers' selections for the all-city team 95% of the time. But I just wanted to remind everyone that Phil did choose Ryan Dempster over Bobby Jenks on this years team. And that does not even account for the fact that Dempster is making 5 million and Bobby is making 300,000 dollars. Bobby is just unbelievable. max power
That's pretty retarded, especially when you consider the opportunities both would have to close games. No one thought the cubs would be this bad but everyone knew jenks would have more chances to save games.
TitoMB345
Jenks is the best closer in the league right now.
Dam8610
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Jenks is the best closer in the league right now. 2nd best. Sorry, but Papelbon is just destroying the league right now.
Felix
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) Jenks is the best closer in the league right now. How do you figure that? Papelbon and BJ Ryan are both better by far, while Tom Gordon and Trevor Hoffman have been dominant too. Add in Mariano Rivera (along with his track record), and I don't see how you can have Jenks as the best in the bigs.
MSHAWKS
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) 2nd best. Sorry, but Papelbon is just destroying the league right now. 3rd best. B.J. Ryan is having a better year than Papelbon even.
ChWRoCk2
Phil Rogers 1. Hes retarded 2. This was probably out of pity 3. Gives cubs fans some reason to keep their garbage on field
lukeman89
Papelbon has 2 blown saves BJ Ryan has 1 Bobby Jenks has 1 i'd take bobby out of those 3 because i am biased and his curve is amazing when its on (see Derek Lee on 7/1) and he throws smoke BJ Ryan didnt give up an earned run all of june (in 13 appearances), which is pretty amazing Bobby Jenks give up only 1 run all of june (in 14 appearances) Papelbon gave up 1 earned run in 10 appearances

MSHAWKS
QUOTE(RX Bandits @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) papelbon has a season ERA of .045 with 24 saves bj ryan has an ERA of .045 with 22 saves bobby has an era or 2.41 with 25 saves sorry you have to go with papelbon no argument B.J. Ryan's WHIP and BAA are slightly lower than Papelbon's, not to mention he has 1 blown save to Papelbon's 2. So contrary to what you posted and what ESPN propogandists report, an argument can be made for Ryan over Papelbon. Either way Jenks is third, at best. And that does not even account for the fact that Dempster is making 5 million and Bobby is making 300,000 dollars. Bobby is just unbelievable. To Rogers' defense, he did write this about a month and a half ago, when Dempster still hadn't blown a save and Bobby was still gaining velocity and was less than dominating. I'm pretty sure that if he made his All-city team today, Bobby would be a no-brainer.
Rowand44
If you're taking the whole season into consideration then obviously Papelbon and Ryan have been better. That being said, right now, Bobby is as good as those two...no question.

Don't let the facts get in the way guys.
