yeah i know, its a rumor from the chubs blog, which also claims the cubs are going to get Arod.

but its better than talking about cliff politte

"This same source told me that the White Sox are "close" to acquiring Andruw Jones from the Braves; the price would be Brian Anderson and young pitching. That deal would also make sense for both sides."

Today Jones to the Sox was floated on the Score by Steve Stone. He said he thinks Andruw will be traded by the deadline, and said the Sox could wind up with him, for BA and pitching, but not BMac. Stone said that BA and BMac wouldn't be necessary to swing the deal. FWIW.

Just him thinking outloud? Or was there some basis to it?

Thome/Konerko/Dye/Jones? Nope. That wouldn't be fair.

not fair at all! That would probably go down as being one of the top 5 offensive lineups of all time. He is good defensively as well. There is no way Atlanta trades him, unless Bobby Cox really wants to rebuild? At his age I doubt that. Chipper and Andruw Jones are Atlanta lifers.

Yeah, Jones is pretty good defensively, he's only the best defensive OF playing right now, the second best of last 15 years (behind Griffey) and one of the best of all-time. I love Andruw Jones, absolutely one of my favorites players ever but I just don't see it happening.

Brian Anderson and young pitching but BMac not being that young pitching? That makes no sense what the hell would they want? Liotta? Lumsy? Broadway? f*** I'd absolutely do that in a heartbeat, I don't think Steve Stone was entirely thinking this one through when he threw it out there.

Well I think Stone's point was that the Braves need to dump salary, so talent wise it would only take Anderson and a pitching prospect, but Jones is due $13.5 Million according to ESPN this year. That means KW would have to pick up a large tab. He did not say these things specifically, but he did mention that the Braves need money to get bullpen help so I assume Jones would be a god place to free up the cash.

There are some serious barriers in the way when talking about a possible acquisition involving Andruw Jones, he's makes $13M this year which would be pro-rated of course and then $13.5M next year, free agent after that. #1 problem I see here is of course his agent, non other than Scott Boras.

doubt it would happen, since KC just signed this guy to a 5 year deal, but here would be the cheaper alternative that i personally wouldn't mind seeing.....

Are you comparing David DeJesus to Andruw Jones?

I don't think we need to worry about finding "cheaper alternatives" now because attendance isn't going down anytime soon. Jerry has always based the payroll on attendance, and with our output on the field and pitching signed for years to come, our payroll will only increase.

I guess the hope would be that Sweeney, or someone, can come up and make a difference so Jones could be let go. I really can't imagine the Sox making this deal.

This trade makes sense. Our offense has been awful so far.

A joke?

Can we have Smoltz as a throw-in?

That's the guy I want. And I bet his price tag would be cheaper than Jones. The Sox rotation is lacking right now, if they can land Smoltz and get rid of Vazquez (wouldn't some bullpen help or a higher average CF be nice?), the Sox would be set in my mind.
