Goldmember Posted July 4, 2006 Share Posted July 4, 2006 Bears Legend, NASCAR Elite, Participate in NASCAR Weekend Celebrity Softball Game JOLIET, Ill. -- Before NASCAR takes the track at Chicagoland Speedway this weekend, eight of its elite drivers - including 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champion Kurt Busch - will hit the softball field with legendary Chicago Bears quarterback and Super Bowl Champion Jim McMahon in the third annual Racin' the Bases Celebrity Softball Challenge. The event, which benefits Victory Junction Gang Camp, takes place at Silver Cross Field in Joliet on Thursday, July 6. Gates open 4:50 at p.m. This year, fans can bid on ebay for the opportunity to be an honorary "Racin' the Bases" team member. The two highest bidders will have the opportunity to sit in the dugout during the game, as well as receive a personalized team jersey; a "Racin' the Bases" hat and t-shirt; an autographed baseball signed by all the celebrity players; and four tickets to the game for their guests. The auction ends on Tuesday, July 4, at 5 p.m. (CST). "Racin' the Bases" is presented by Chicagoland Speedway, Victory Junction Gang Camp and the Joliet JackHammers as part of the 2006 "Race Fan Rally" being held in Joliet's City Center. Festivities kick off with an autograph session from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by the celebrity softball game at 6:15 p.m. In addition, fans will have the opportunity to bid on autographed racing memorabilia located near the main entrance throughout the game. Joining McMahon on the diamond will be NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver and co-founder of Victory Junction Gang Camp, Kyle Petty, along with fellow NASCAR celebrities, including 2005 NEXTEL Cup Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch. The line-up for this year also includes NASCAR drivers Tony Raines (No. 96 DLP HDTV Chevrolet); Scott Wimmer (No. 4 Aero Exhaust Chevrolet); Kevin Lepage (No. 49 LoansDepot.com Dodge); Carlos Contreras (No. 14 Dodge); Aaron Fike (No. 33 Outdoor Channel Chevrolet). Mascots from Chicago's professional sports teams will also be participating in this year's softball game, including Skates - Chicago Wolves; Tommy Hawk - Chicago Blackhawks; Stryker - Chicago Storm; Grabowski - Chicago Rush; Sky Guy - Chicago Sky; Staley - Chicago Bears; and Jammer - Joliet Jackhammers. Silver Cross Field is located three miles north of Chicagoland Speedway. The state-of-the-art ballpark opened in 2002 and has a seating capacity of 4,616, but Silver Cross Field can hold more than 7,000 fans with the General Admission areas (grassy hills). In 2003, Baseball America ranked Silver Cross Field the second-best of the 66 ballparks in the independent classification of professional baseball and first in the Northern League.
