This team will have a better regular season record than last year'

An important thing to note here, who here expects Detroit to keep up their torrid 1st half pace into the 2nd half of the season?

I ask this because some people here are saying we are due for a slump and therefore we'll be going for a wild card spot and not the AL Central Title. I don't expect that to be the case at all.

I am not excited at all. No reason to relax. I am not jumping off a bridge, nor am I a bandwagon fan. I do think 6 games is alot. Hell 2 games seems to be alot and I do think the sox are not playing well. It just shows more against better teams. They need to pitch better. Our starters really do suck right now. 5 ERA's are not going to win you a division.

I gotta admit, you're more reasonable than the others with your position. I just have a little more faith that our guys will do what they need to do. :gosoxretro:

Do you really expect that our starting pitching can actually get worse from here on in?

I really don't know, why do you think it will get better? I think you missed my point or at least you misread what i have said. I think the sox right now are not playing well. I think there pitching is terrible. i think the schedule is not kind to us in the near future.I think the tigers schedule is easy. I think if we fall back 6 games to the tigers after that series, then we will be contending for the wild card not the division.

it is my opinion only. I do think our bats will cool down. i have no idea if our pitching will be as good as last year which it will need to be because the division is better. Again my opinion.

Well I think the ASB is coming up at a real good time for us. Coop needs to sit down with every starter and show them the film etc of when they were pitching well, because each starter at various points this season has certainly done that.

SSI71 came up with a real good list a couple of days back of what each starter was doing wrong and it was certainly fixable by the sounds of it.

Also, a lot of Detroit's Starting Pitchers aren't 2nd half pitchers. Kenny Rogers isn't, Jeremy Bonderman wasn't last season, and Nate Robertson certainly hasn't, and I don't expect Zach Miner to continue pitching well for the rest of the season while he's filling in for Maroth. So they're due for a letdown sometime in the future as well.

Well I hope your right. I do think Detriot will cool off but I really don't want to be 5 or 6 games back when they do. Staying within 1 or 2 games is key, so when detriot cools off we can pounce.

By the way Tigers up 1-0

This was the same old horse s*** I heard last year when we opened the playoff series against Boston. Does anybody remember what our record was against the Red Sox during the 2005 regular season? We were a game under .500, 4-5 I believe. Did that carry over in the post-season? NO. I don't give a s*** how we perform during the regular season, who we beat, etc, as long as we get to the damn playoffs.

The theory that the White Sox couldn't beat the Red Sox during the regular season was thrown around thousands of times last year....look what happened.

Basically all I'm saying is that it's stupid to judge how a team will perform in the playoffs (if we get there), based off of two lousy regular season games.

I really think there has been a lack of focus for our starters this year, I'm not sure what it is. Hopefully Jose has a good outing tomorrow.

It's a long season. There will be ups and downs. Haven't seen Detroit have a long down period yet.

Will it happen? Who knows, it is a new year. I'm guessing it will, they have been playing at a torrid pace.

Ok I agree, but I don't want to be 6 games back when they start to slide. If we leave Detriot two games back, its time to celebrate.

tigers up 2-1 and rallying. Seattles defense is horrible.

quickman's point is right on. We need to keep them in range. Not that we need to take them over in the standings right now, but as we 'struggle' we need to keep the team in front of us right in range and not let it get too far out of hand.

Question for ya guys. What you rather have the small ball, solid defensive, 1 run winning team, dominate pitching team we had last year or the out slugging team that gives up a ton of runs team that we have this year?

In the long run outslugging people won't work. Ask the Rangers. Now the Sox are geared to have both but the starting staff in all seriousness sucks right now. They are really bad. in addition and completely off the subject, buehrle has no right to go to the all star game and I would much rather see liriano or schilling in there. Hell if I were buerhle I would make up some injury and get out of it. The starters are the key to the second half. They pitch we will win.

This team reminds me of the 2004 Red Sox actually. So im not saying we CANT win the World Series, just our pitching NEEDS to get it together. Why CANT we have both solid pitching and solid hitting? It can happen. In fact this team hasn't even reached its full potential yet in my opinion. When it all comes together, look out MLB! The Champs will riegn supreme.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:04 PM)
There, I said it.

There is a very good chance. Everyone in the bullpen (minus Jenks and even Cotts) is underperforming, it's tough to figure they'd get worse. Buehrle is having a usual bump in the road...hey, he has one every year, I'm sure he's earned it...but Garland seems to be coming around the bend. I think winning the division rides on the success of Jose Contreras. If he can dominate and become almost an automatic win, the Sox will stay out of prolonged slumps. The team overall is not as consistent as last season, but if they can get any form of consistancy from the rotation (which, for the most part they have out of Buehrle and Garcia), I don't see any reasons why the Sox wouldn't win 100 games.

For the last time...THE ALL-STAR GAME IS NOT ABOUT THE BEST AND MOST DESERVING PLAYERS MAKING IT!!!!!!

Then you would be stupid.

You get a spot on the team; you take it. You enjoy it and soak in the fun.

Guys who turn down spots are losers. Buehrle is a winner.
