Heads22
A great chance to see the Sox top prospect, Josh Fields, as well as Anderson Gomes. Here are the rosters: I'd have to imagine Josh will get some serious time. It'll also be the first chance for a lot of people to see Gio Gonzalez. Heads22
Fields isn't starting unless they are using a DH.
Heads22
Fields is the starting DH....5th in the US order. Homer Bailey pitching. Bailey looking NASTY. Fields batting second in the bottom of the second. Homer Bailey's hand just exploded or something.
beautox
Baileys got blisters, that doesn't bode well for the reds. Josh Beckett anyone?

beautox
Billy Butler with a 2 run blast. do you think fields could move to 2B?
Heads22
Well, I'd imagine Fields will get maybe one more atbat, but he didn't look too out of place at the plate. He swung through the first pitch and then just pulled the pitch he hit down the line. His swing is certainly long.....but he hits the ball hard when he does. QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Billy Butler with a 2 run blast. do you think fields could move to 2B? I'd think there's a better chance of LF. Heads22
Fields up again. Nice piece of hitting, but a baserunning gaffe. Fields now 2-2, 1B, 2B, RBI, R.
maggsmaggs
With all the scouts there, Fields is sure bringing his value up by hitting rockets off some of the games best pitchers.
minorsfan
If anyone is interested you can e-mail the players from either the World or USA teams thru mlb.com and follow the futures thread.. it also prints their responses. danman31
Fields looks like a DH down the road anyway. Maybe next year he can play 3rd and DH when Crede or Thome are off. He'd only be playing 2-3 times a week but that's the best case scenario I see, at least within this organization.

Ever heard of the position LF........ A course its no guarantee he will be there far from it, but its not out of the question at all. A course its no guarantee he will be there far from it, but its not out of the question at all. He's hasn't played LF in the minors. KW can see this situation as easily as we can. If he wanted Josh at left in the future he would be playing there in AAA. It's a near guarantee that he won't be playing LF. Best case scenario in terms of LF for Josh is that he adds it as a position he can platoon in next year as he learns on the fly or something. He won't be starting there. There are reasons for summer leagues. In all honesty we have no idea how KW sees the situation. Its not like LF is really the hardest position to learn either... if manny can do it anyone can. Im not saying he will be in LF but im saying it isnt out of the possibility.
