DrunkBomber
I believe they filmed the ESPYS last night and they will be shown sometime soon. Does everyone think the Sox should be a shoe in for best team? If not who, the Steelers are the only competition I believe. I read a few reports online that have it going to the Heat but I dont think that could be possible. I know its ESPN and stuff, just curious on everyones thoughts about it. The award seems to be made for our beloved '05 White Sox. That was the epitomy of team.
tealeafreaderii
highlight below for the spoiler: Steelers win best team and Cowher wins best coach... Bulls***, right? Edited July 13, 2006 by tealeafreaderii
LVSoxFan
Highlight below to read my post: That is BULLs***! OMG are you kidding me? We have a 162 game season, lead from wire-to-wire, break an 88 year curse, have no "superstars" and sweep through the playoffs and they pick the freakin STEELERS?!!? God I hate ESPN and their biases. AirScott
ok, this was on TV, so don't worry about spoilers. if you want to avoid it so badly, avoid watching SportsCenter and reading this thread. but seriously, how does a 100-win team that was first place wire-to-wire, and not only held off a ridiculous push from a team playing .800 ball (the Indians), but swept them to eliminate them from the playoffs NOT win team of the year? I'd like to know who votes on this...my guess is the same people who chose Lance Armstrong (not a comedian) to host.

watchtower41
Its pretty obvious that ESPN chose the Steelers because they benefitted by using the award as an outlet for Big Ben's first public apperance since the accident. Gotta remember with MNF on ESPN now, football will always reign supreme on this network over any sport in the future. Should be interesting on how they handle the mlb playoffs with the NFL season getting hot and heavy at the same time.
Controlled Chaos
Backstage Buzz at 2006 ESPYS ESPN.com staff LOS ANGELES -- You won't be able to see The ESPYS until Sunday night, July 16 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. But your favorite This year over 12 million votes were cast by you the fans to help determine the best of the best from the past year in sports. All the biggest names from every sport under the sun will make their way into the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood (yes, the place where they do American Idol) to watch host Lance Armstrong oversee the festivites and hand out some hardware to the deserving athletes that received the majority of your votes. DrunkBomber
This is rediculous. Granted the Steelers were a good team, and it was great they did it from the sixth seed...But there is no way this shouldnt of went to the Sox. They lead wire to wire. Every single analyst doubts them all year. They didnt have one 20 game winner or any real superstars. Get chased by the severely overacheiving Indians for the whole second half and manage to hold them off and finish them off themselves by sweeping them to end the season. Theyre picked to lose every series in the post season. Handily sweep the defending world champs.Lose one close game in the ALCS and never look back. 4 complete games, walk off home runs from Podesednik and Gload. Kongs slam. What a ride. ESPN can have that award. There will never be another season or team like last years World Champion White Sox.
Milkman delivers
Hold on. Everyone take a step back and ask yourself, "Do I really care?" Honestly, the answer should be a resounding "no." How much different would your life, or anything, be if they had won? Not at all. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) This is rediculous. Second, it wasn't a walkoff because it was on the road. And lastly, it was Blum.

RibbieRubarb
I'm reminded of that SNL skit when Deion Sanders hosted. It was the ESPYs and when he won he got up all excited and said: "You know I thought I had it all when I won The Super Bowl! But now I got an ESPY!!! Yeah!!!" I agree. Who cares. I think I remember that one. They had a category for "Tallest Basketball Player," in which two of the nominees were Manute Bol and Mugsy Bogues or something like that.
