This is amazing

Top story is Mets talking to Sox about Vazquez or Garcia (please let it be Javy) and second story is about the Yanks' letting Contreras get away:

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/index.html

Incidentally, this is not a second guess, but I was concerned during the offseason about the relievers we let go (Marte, Vizcaino) and now I'm not surprised that we're looking to trade a starter because we need relievers. Personally I'd hate to see Garcia go. And although I'd say Javy has been a mild disappointment, there is no way in HELL I'd trade him for Tom Gordon (Philly is another possible trade partner mentioned in the article).

There is a link to the Javy rumors already in trade winds but I'll keep this in here because of the Contreras article. As far as the Vaz rumors, it's interesting that they put that Philly would trade Flash here for Javy(obviously I'd like a bit more) but Gordon definitely is a stud and would take our pen from being solid to absolutely awesome. Also, in one move you upgrade the pen and the rotation imo because I do believe Bmac would be our 3rd best starter right now.

Sorry about that. I should've looked there first... although the gist of my post is that the Sox are the top two sports stories in the NY media.

I like Gordon also but I can't see dealing an above-average starter in his prime for a reliever who is almost 40.

No problem at all since the Count story is in there anyways. Just letting you know if you want to read other people's opinions about all of this.

WOW. Garcia on the block? I'm trying to get used to that.

As far as Flash, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he on the Sox in '03 or '04?

Me personally, I am NOT worried about a reliever. I am worried about a STARTER.

Yeah he was here and he was good. After Koch I think he took over as closer.

As for the trade rumors, moving to the NL will be best for both of these guys.

Why? Garcia is garbage this year. He's lost his velocity, and relies almost exclusively on breaking/offspeed pitches to survive. You can't beat good offensive teams with his junkballing ways.

If we can trade him for a top notch reliever like Gordon we improve our starting rotation by inserting McCarthy back where he should be, and we turn our relief corps, a problem in the beginning of the year, into one of the best in the majors. I'd like to see the Phillies throw in a prospect as well, because a starter is more valuable than a reliever, but on the major league roster, we strenghten both positions by making this deal.

No way to trading Freddy and keeping Javy.

That'd be a huge mistake.

Even if Freddy has lost some of his stuff this year, he still knows how to pitch.

Vazquez is a mental midget who's not getting it done.

At least with Vazquez you know he has the stuff to turn it around... Just like with Garland who was a mental midget and than turned it around last season. He hasnt been the same this season but Garland has actually showed improvement for awhile now and id rather have him out there than vazquez or freddy. So if Garland can turn it around I dont see why Vazquez who already has good control and good stuff cant.

How's that a huge mistake? Vazquez, as we all have seen, has the stuff to be a strong #2 or 3 pitcher, but falls apart mentally. That can be fixed. Exhibit A) Jose Contreras Exhibit B.) Jon Garland

Freddy Garcia is on the downside of his career, due to make 10 million dollars when he's lost his fastball and must rely exclusively on breaking/offspeed pitches. He has no upside, is expensive, and is easily replaceable.

KEEP FREDDY!!! He's proven what he can do for us in the playoffs and during the clutch games last year and some this year. Yeah he shows his frusterations to his teamates when they can't field a ball (Iguchi, R. Mack), but that just shows he's a competitive guy. If there is one guy we should move for reliever help, it should better damn be Javy. I agree with Boz, he's a mental midget.

NICE ............... get the SOX name out there

You're right, no one knows the Sox won the World Series last year because just the local media talks about a team winning the World Series.

I was clueless for months.
