Jason Stark on Javier Vazquez/Freddy Garcia

What's upsetting me the most about Vazquez and Garcia are both have been unable to atleast pitch ONE quality outing within two weeks. Not only have their efforts hurt our club, but their value has quickly dominished.

 

All we need is for Garcia or Vazquez to respectively pitch ONE dominating game before the trade deadline. Atleast provide an organization on the fence another thought concerning their value. Wouldn't huirt if the Mets lost 6 or 7 straight entering the trade deadline, either.

Here's the question flash, would Vaz or Garcia going out and throwing a complete game shutout (or 8 innings with 1 or 2 runs) make Kenny more willing to move him. Sure he could probably get a lot more value for them after just one really good start (cause teams see that they still have the abilities) but at the same time wouldn't Kenny be thinking the same thing (these guys have proven they could do it in the past and now he showed me that they could very well still do it and do it for us down the stretch).

 

Its really why if Freddy or Javier have a really good start I can't see them dealt and if we don't get a pretty good offer for Freddy I don't see him getting dealt (a Pelfrey or Cabrerra involved in it plus a reliever) since I don't think the deal helps the Sox out as much as having Freddy turning things around could help the club.

I ask for Humber. Pelfrey is way too unrealistic. Humber's a bit of a boom or bust with his injury problems. But if Minaya has problems making a deal elsewhere, maybe he'll come back to us.

 

There should be other possibilites as the deadline approaches though.

 

Just a note to everybody-Pelfrey can't be traded until a year after he signed, which was in the winter so forget about aquiring him. I think the innings have caught up to Freddy, and I would trade him or Vazquez for Gordon in a second.

 

Also, did anybody hear about the Abreu for Milledge rumor?

I think if Minaya gets desperate enough at the deadline, a Heilman and Humber deal could certainly be possible.

 

It will ultimately depend on a number of factors though, including how the current Mets SP's do, and whether Minaya can get Livan or Miguel Batista cheaper.

 

And Humber would be a top SP in our system, and he throws pretty hard IIRC.

He tops out at 94 and lives at about 92. He's got very good command of his fastball and a major league curveball. From what I've heard he throws a plus change as well. Most Mets fans would consider him their 4th or 5th best prospect right now.

I think if we let Bowden and Gillick and everyone else bother Minyana for Pelfrey and Milledge, and focus on Humber and Heilman, he may make the move to satisfy the critics calling for the Mets to fortify their club, yet at the same time satisfying the critics screaming "don't trade Pelfrey or Milledge."

 

I would be surprised if Minyana stands pat here. But I would be surprised if he goes for broke as well.

This was discussed on a Mets blog, inorder for Pelfrey to be traded this year he has to be a PTBNL and only to an AL team, changing organizations in January.

I can't see Zito being moved right now because of Harden's status and because Loaiza is turning into a huge bust. If they move Zito they are in a really tough spot right now...
