CySox
Kenny keeps on saying that he doesn't want to/won't trade Garcia or Vazquez, and no one from the major league roster, but that better be a smoke screen. IMO, either Garcia and/or Vazquez has gotta go. We need to make room for McCarthy in the rotation. Kenny has also said Fields and Sweeney are untouchable. I have no problem with that. The only minor leaguers I think we need to keep are, Sweeney, Liotta, Lumsden, Broadway, and Fields. Everyone else is expandable and can/should be used in a trade to sure up the bullpen. Today, there will be scouts from the mets most likely watching the game. The Mets really want Garcia, from what I've heard. But, I have also read that Kenny wanted Duaner Sanchez and another prospect in return, and the Mets turned it down. So, depending on how Garcia does today, we might be able to get Sanchez and that prospect, or possibly even Tom Gordon and a prospect from the Phillies. But, I think we all can agree on one thing, Kenny needs to make a move. This team is on the verge to slipping down to 3rd place in the central. We need a right handed SU man, a back up catcher, and even maybe a starting pitcher. Kenny, you better be bluffing.

Crede's agent is Scott Bora$$ and Kenny doesn't know if he can sign him long term. He'll have trouble with comming to an agreement for Crede through arbitration. I think Kenny makes his decision on Fields in the offseason.

Chisoxfn
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) Teams are going to be clamoring over our other prospects then....not. I'll be surprised if Fields is still a member of the Sox organization in 10 days. I wouldn't be shocked. Kenny likes him, however, I do think he's not afraid to give him up. However, I don't expect Sweeney to get shipped out but Broadway, Lummy, Tracey, Liotta, and others may be fair game (obviously not all of them, but some of them could be). You also have Heath Phillips whose a prime trade candidate as well as Arnie Munoz. Not saying they have tremendous value, but they have value in terms of a back up catcher or in Phillips case he could be a key secondary prospect in a deal. Unfortunately almost every team in baseball is "alive" in one of the races. Hopefully there is something we can do, but right now I'm not counting on it. WCSox
I'm getting sick of hearing this. Kenny "making a move" isn't going to magically turn these guys back into winners. This is especially true regarding starting pitching, where it would be very difficult for KW to trade for ONE elite starter, much less make up for the consistently-bad outings of both Garcia and Vazquez and the occasionally-bad outings of Garland and Buehrle. The current roster simply needs to play better baseball. That's the only way they'll make the playoffs.

That's the only way they'll make the playoffs. This is true, for sure, but filling a hole or two wouldn't hurt either. Won't "magically" turn them into winners, but obtaining a quality backup catcher and setup man would make a lot of sense.

That will be helpful, but it's not going to make a huge difference... especially if Garcia, Vazquez, and Buehrle keep giving up five- and six-run innings. The Sox' fortunes begin and end with the success of the rotation, as do most teams'.
GreatScott82
KW will add to the bullpen in some shape or form. Unless Tracey woohs everyone like Jenks did last season, KW will go out and find another reliever. Honestly that will probably be it. I don't forsee Javy or Freddy get traded. To be honest with you. How can you expect Javy, Freddy, and Mark to be struggling at the same time? Its frusterating for KW, but he MUST rely on the fact that they will fix there problems. You cant just go out and add another starter.

CWSOX45
I'm not 100% sure on this, but didnt Kenny also say back in 04 that Jeremy Reed was also "untouchable" I could be wrong on this, but by Williams saying that Fields is untouchable, it only raises his stock. (Not to mention the great year he's having).

CySox
Yep....cause Brian Anderson never K'd much either. but he didn't hit 270 either. He hit .290-.300. Like fields, he strikes out a lot, but he is still putting up a good average, and he gets lots of walks. Like Anderson, he got lots of walks also.
