Chisoxfn
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) Wow, Lamura for Sandy. That's over paying imo. Lamura has a pretty damn good arm and could be a decent reliever one of these years. I think BJ could have maybe been a decent throw in, in a larger deal. Wish we could have given up a Munoz type... Munoz probably has more trade value than Lamura, but this is a fair move. Lamura has a lot of work to do before he ever turns into a legit prospect. He does have a nice arm, but he's the exact type of guy you can move. He's a college reliever thats taken a while to develop. That said, its starting to look like he's finding things out, but he is 25 and still just in AA. His numbers have been fabulous this year though. Chisoxfn
This is from Soxtalk's article on Lamura for those not familiar with him. I usually put in pretty detailed stuff about guys we traded cause we tend to get a lot of visitors from opposing teams (especially FutureSox). The White Sox are expected to send RHP B.J. Lamura to the Dodgers. Lamura, 25, was a 5th round selection out of the University of Clemson. A reliever in college, the Sox immediately moved Lamura to the rotation before moving him back to the pen midway through the 2005 season. In 2006, he emerged as a dominant reliever for the Barons going 5-0 with 3 saves and a 1.69 ERA. He struck out 67 while giving up just 32 hits in 53.1 innings. Lamura has a the potential to turn into a major league reliever. He throws a good fastball and slider, but has had periods throughout his career where he didn't appear to trust his stuff. Gene Honda Civic
terrible.move. Alomar should report directly to the Field Museum. He'd be more at home on exhibit next to Sue than standing in the box Tuesday vs. Santana.
Flash Tizzle
I consider any player traded for Alomar with the potential to become a major league player as overpaying. Whether that's scrub reliever or 4th OF. Edited July 23, 2006 by Flash Tizzle

NorthSideSox72
I guess I would rather have called up Stewart. But this is certainly better at this point than standing pat. And maybe Alomar can shake things up a bit. From a purely results viewpoint, it seems Alomar can't be worse than a 5+ CERA and 0 for 25 at the plate. FlaCWS
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) I consider any player traded for Alomar with the potential to become a major league player as overpaying. Whether that's scrub reliever or 4th OF. I absolutely agree with this. Alomar is 40 years old for goodness sake. It's ridiculous to give up anything to get someone who is 40 and will play once a week for half a season. Widger is bad but come on, he is not even close to the reason this team has struggled recently.
korntownballa
I'd be interested in this little stat, b/c i also think widger was the problem. The last two games were started by AJ and we did pretty good. I think most of the time when Widger started, our pitchers got hit hard. So if anybody can find this little pieace of info, i'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

bjm676
Welcome back Sandy. He can't do any worse than Widger. As for Widger, enjoy your ring. Not many softball players have one.

AWhiteSoxinNJ
From Rotoworld: Sandy Alomar - C - White Sox White Sox acquired catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. from the Dodgers for RHP B.J. LaMura. We thought the White Sox might upgrade from Chris Widger. Instead, they acquired Alomar. The 40-year-old was hitting .323, but most of that came in the first two weeks. He's 9-for-39 since April 20. He hasn't walked in 62 at-bats this season, and his last homer came in 2004. Since he's also probably not a defensive upgrade from Widger these days, this is a sideways move at best. At least they didn't give up much. LaMura, 25, had a 1.69 ERA and a 67/31 K/BB ratio in 53 1/3 IP for Double-A Birmingham this season. It'd be a surprise if he turned into a quality reliever. Kalapse
QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) From Rotoworld: Wow, another perfect writeup by Rotoworld. Alomar at best is equal to Widger, I personally see it as a downgrade, mainly because I see him hitting the DL around August 5th.
