cav38
if the sox get soriano i think they should trade pods because he would be terrible in center and someone might give you a solid reliever. i dont know who needs an outfielder except the yankees and frankly i dont really want any of there relievers (except rivera..yeah right) but maybe theres someone out there lookin for speed so we'll see. just a thought though really. kwill
I have a feeling if we do get Soriano we will flip him again. Kenny is very good at filling holes and Soriano would create one, no matter how good he is with the bat. I think if he gets him he controls the market taking the Tigers or for that matter any other contender out of the market. I hear Seattle is very interested in Soriano, i wouldnt mind getting Rafeal Soriano and a couple good prospects for Soriano.

Also, maybe it's just me, but I don't see this "flipping" thing happening at all. How often does this really happen in baseball? KW sees his offense struggling, and Soriano is one of the best hitters in baseball. I think some people are making this more complicated than it has to be. Thanks dasox...I fixed it. dasox24
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:04 AM) How would acquiring Soriano fill a hole? He didn't say Soriano would fill a hole. In fact, he said Soriano would create a hole. However, he did say that flipping Soriano in another trade could fill a hole. sircaffey
Perhaps 2 weeks ago KW was interested in getting Soriano and flipping him to the NL or whatever, but with what has gone down in the past 2-3 weeks, there is no chance in hell he would not keep Soriano. KW's got to be pissed right now.
YASNY
I'm gonna throw this out there, but it's purely a hunch on my part. Kenny's been talking about a "big" deal and knowing how he works under the radar, this has been swimming around my brain as the type of deal Kenny would make. I'm talking about KW getting Soriano and then flipping him to Seattle for ... wait for it ... Ichiro. It's the type of thing KW would do. Yas, why would Seattle trade for a rent a player when they just signed Ichiro to a long term deal?

I don't see the M's trading Ichiro. There is a big Japanese population in Seattle and right now he is their only drawing card.
YASNY
If Ichiro just signed a deal in Seattle, I missed that news. I was under the impression that Ichiro was not happy with the direction the franchise was going.

KW did inquire about Ichiro this off-season, as Ichiro wasn't happy in Seattle and wanted to go to a team that was going to be competitive. The Mariners declined, stating they had no plans to move their most popular player. While it would be all shades of awesome to have Ichiro atop the Sox order, I just don't see it in the cards. They wouldn't now for sure, and they'll need him in the off-season if they want to sign Daisuke Matsuzuka as well I would imgaine.
Kid Gleason
Just talking about Suzuki makes me all kinds of happy. But yeah, doubt it would ever happen. Hey, any chance of our tricking Detroit into taking Javy and giving us Rogers? Let's see just how good KW really is.
harfman77
What about acquiring Pierre to play Center and lead off the rest of the season? CF Pierre LF Soriano DH THome 1B Konerko RF Dye 2B Iguchi C Pierzynski 3B Crede SS Uribe Hopefully after those moves we weould still have BA as a defensive replacement for Piere late in the game

Having Pierre in CF is a downgrade on defense, and our farm system would be BARE considering the prospects you'd have to give up to acquire both Soriano AND Pierre. Let's just say there was a discussion about Juan in the off-season about the merits of acquiring him and he wasn't too popular around these parts (Jeckle the floor is yours). CanOfCorn
I don't think people really mean "flipping," it would be more of a three-way trade, which is kinda like flipping. How about getting R. Soriano and Ibanez? Don't know Ibanez' contract situation, but he would fill in nicely for Pods in left next year. JMO.

Plus our outfield defense would be horrible, we'd have 2 outfielders that are free agents at the end of the year, and Soriano is a better leadoff hitter than Pierre at this point in their careers.
