Kalapse
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) We really need something pinned at the top of pht that just says, "JOE CREDE IS NOT A FA AFTER THIS SEASON." Perhaps I should put it back in my sig.
shawnhillegas
Acording to a report in the Los Angeles Times, the Angels are also interested in acquiring Soriano. The paper reports Nationals GM Jim Bowden is believed to have asked the Angels for one of their three top young pitchers -- John Lackey, Ervin Santana or Jered Weaver -- and one of their top prospects, infielder Howie Kendrick or shortstop Brandon Wood. oh my god, can you imagine the angels doing that? it would be the worst trade ever. Brandon Wood and Jered Weaver for rent-a-Soriano?!?!
GoodAsGould
I wouldnt give up any of those players alone for Soriano... well maybe Lacky but none of the others.

Lackey might be the best of the bunch. He's one of 4 pitchers in baseball to have under a 3 ERA from last year's ASB to this year's ASB. spiderman
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Lackey might be the best of the bunch. He's one of 4 pitchers in baseball to have under a 3 ERA from last year's ASB to this year's ASB. How old is Lackey ? I don't think he's "young" anymore - I would think that Ervin Santana or Jered Weaver would be more likely targets. Not to mention that Lackey is their top starter...I don't think he's going anywhere. Edited July 29, 2006 by spiderman
Jake
At this point in time, Soriano is the only player I really want to pursue. There's no other position I feel needs to be upgraded.

There's no other position I feel needs to be upgraded. What about Short Stop? I want a consistent hitter and fielder to play the position, not someone like Uribe, who lets his cold streak at the plate effect his play in the field. I want a consistent hitter and fielder to play the position, not someone like Uribe, who lets his cold streak at the plate effect his play in the field. Uribe's not the greatest shortstop out there but Soriano made a lot of errors at 2nd base, I couldn't imagine how many he'd make at shortshop. CWSGuy406
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) What about Short Stop? I want a consistent hitter and fielder to play the position, not someone like Uribe, who lets his cold streak at the plate effect his play in the field. Why does everybody want to replace Uribe at short? Even though he's a streaky hitter, he's still one of the better defensive shortstops in all of baseball. And, overall, he's a fine #8-9 hitter who you can "hide" when he's slumping. His OPS is up to .721, now. I know his arm has been a little more erratic this year, which has caused some to dislike Uribe a bit more, but I still trust him going into the hole and making that throw over most other shortstops in baseball. Furthermore, the names that have been brought up as possible replacements are either not realistic (Tejada) or not that much better overall (Furcal). I'm 100% sure in saying that Tejada would cost the Sox McCarthy, along with two (maybe all three?) of Sweeney/Fields/Broadway. So the Sox would be adding another what, $10 million bucks, without being able to shed a starting pitcher next season (ie lose Garcia's big contract). I almost laugh when people bring up Furcal at all; the guy is making $13 million this year (and for the next three seasons, IIRC), has an OPS that's all of ten points higher than Uribe's, and their defense is comparable. Uribe is a relative bargain. The Sox have him locked up through next year at under four million dollars, and might even have an option through '08. When his defense starts to decline, then we can start talking about Uribe's replacement.

I agree, we should find some way to write in some sort of bonus if he draws so many walks, because he's not bad at the plate otherwise. DBAHO
The Nats are still tryin to re-sign Alfonso; With the trade deadline little more than 36 hours away, the Nationals are still trying to sign Alfonso Soriano to a contract extension, MLB.com is reporting. A good time to float the story anyway. If the Nationals still have a chance to sign Soriano, maybe teams will improve their offers. Everyone still seems to believe that Soriano is a goner. According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Astros, Angels, Twins and Dodgers are the remaining suitors. Three of those teams -- the Astros. Angels and Dodgers -- are also believed to be trying for Miguel Tejada.

Why in the hell would you trade that for Soriano???? Didnt notice the season he is having this year... which would be kind of counter-productive if he was traded. Still of all those players... Ervin Santana, Jered Weaver, Brandon Wood, and Howie Kendrick I think Lackey has the lowest ceiling and would move him b4 one of those 4. I think a good move for both teams... Humberto Sanchez and Cameron Maybin are both 2 talented for a 2 month rental.. even if they dont pan out at this point I wouldnt trade either. For us B-Mac is 2 important to the future of our rotation for Soriano.
