That's a handy excuse, but it doesn't hold water. Prospects who were starters all throughout their minor league careers come up to the majors and pitch out of the bullpen all the time. Good ones usually perform better in the pen than in the rotation. It is rare that good pitcher can't handle the bullpen, but works well as a SP.

Some pitchers, especially strarters, need an inning or 2 to get locked in, that may be the case with McCarthy

When I get off work tonight at 2 A.M. I better hear on the radio that the White Sox made a trade for Soriano or heck somebody

Don't bet on it. What's more likely is that you'll hear that KW signed Crazy Carl and Sandy's brother.

yes, please let's get off the Soriano dream.

why? it's become quite obvious that the only way we can score is via the hR, so replacing a guy with 3 for a guy with 31 couldnt hurt

Flash, you didn't answer my main point in your other thread. Why should we care about young arms and bullpen filler guys in the minors if we control 10 of our current pitchers through 2007 and 9 of them through 2008?

I didn't notice your question in whichever thread it was posted.

Of those 10 pitchers, it just happens three starters -- Buehrle, Vazquez, Garcia -- are included. It's to the point where Buehrle's struggles are beyond a mere "slump." Either there's an unbelievable scouting report available or he's injured. Vazquez's concerns are mental, although his "stuff" remains. Garica, obviously, has lost about 5-7 mph on his fastball. Personally, I believe it's important for our club to have several pitchers available who can reasonably be expected to replace these starters.

Bullpen arms are notoriously unreliable season to season. Having a contigency plan available from within the system limits situations such a overpaying for Mike MacDougal.

What irritates me about trading Lumsden is it limits options in 07. If he were available to replace Buehlre, or Garcia, it may have made either a trading chip. Thus, because of our good situation, we could have whichever package Buehlre/Garcia provided and a young, cheap pitcher available. These are the scenarios I hope for.

We've got a guy that good in the bullpen who is ready to dominate as a starter. (even though he can't dominate as a middle reliever)

I said I was going to stay out of this thread, but I just wanted to comment on this. McCarthy isn't a fire-baller who can come out of the pen and dominate (like Zumaya). Rather, he's a "feel" pitcher, and his change-up and curve have been nowhere near as effective as it was when he was a starter. He's not a reliever, and I believe it's been very mentally challenging for him this season.

Well our next 6 games are vs Baltimore and KC, that should help

hHAHHAHAHAAHAHA. dont make me laugh. I can safely say, The way were playing, were going 2-4 vs said teams.

Thats the problem. Im sure the SOX and some of their fans are thinking this right now "wait til we play Balt and KC, we'll catch up then"

As long as those 2 wins are Friday and Saturday, I won't be nearly as pissed off as if they lost those 2 games.

Right now a 2-4 road trip doesn't sound too bad to me
