whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 26, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) Soooooooo, he DIDNT beat cancer? Lance DEFINITELY deserves credit: he's used beating cancer to hide being a cheater and a bad guy better than almost anybody else could in my opinion. Balta1701
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 28, 2010 -> 12:00 PM) Lance DEFINITELY deserves credit: he's used beating cancer to hide being a cheater and a bad guy better than almost anybody else could in my opinion. Link Until conclusive proof of his guilt surfaces, Armstrong's denials deserve to be respected. Not because he says he's innocent -- they all say that -- but because lying about his case, given the special constituency he has, would be reprehensible. whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) Link I think he's in too deep to stop lying about it now. I understand jealousy and such exists on the parts of many of his accusers, but i'm also a believer in where there's smoke, there's fire. And while the "fire" hasn't been found on Lance Armstrong's cheating yet, there has been enough smoke to blanket a large city on the subject. Yeah, beating cancer was probably to cover up doping for a bike race. All the physical and mental struggle he went through was probably nothing. Texsox
Can we all agree that cycling was about the dirtiest sport out there for PEDs and other medical maneuvers?
Milkman delivers
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 28, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Yeah, beating cancer was probably to cover up doping for a bike race. All the physical and mental struggle he went through was probably nothing. What's the point of this post? He was saying that he beat cancer, and that is a great thing, but he used the fact that he beat cancer to garner positive publicity while he cheated his ass off and left his wife for Sheryl Crow. Adolf Hitler could've beaten cancer...it wouldn't have made him a good person.

Armstrong's charity (or his shield from cheating) has raised $325 million dollars for cancer research, prevention programs and funds for survivors. Amazing that he went through all of that to make himself look good in the press. Maybe if you have a family member who faces a battle with cancer or a loved one who has suffered the pain of treatment or even death you appreciate a program like his instead of taking such a pathetic short sighted view of the absolute bigger picture. DBAHO
QUOTE (Tex @ May 29, 2010 -> 03:34 AM) Can we all agree that cycling was about the dirtiest sport out there for PEDs and other medical maneuvers? Yep I'd agree. The sad thing about this, is that Cycling's actually done a pretty decent job on this issue ever since the Operacion Puerto incident that lead to the suspensions of the likes of Ivan Basso (who just won the Giro de Italia) for 2 years back in 2006, and Landis has to bring Cycling's reputation into the muck again trying to clear his name when everyone knows you can't trust a single word that comes out of his mouth. All the physical and mental struggle he went through was probably nothing. This is precisely why he deserves so much credit for the way he's used defeating cancer. There are tons of people who will simply never believe he uses PED's because he beat such a brutal disease. Obviously, anybody who can defeat cancer (especially a case as bad as Lance had) is incredibly brave and worthy of praise in that regard, but a doper is a doper is a doper. Funny how you didnt address my actual point. I just lost another family member this weekend to Cancer, and anyone who has headed an organization on its way to raising half a billion dollars for survivors, families and research would never in a million year cross my mind as someone I would compare to Hitler. Maybe you think he used Cancer as a publicity ploy, but if you spoke to anyone who has actually received compensation or help from the Livestrong foundation, you would clearly see how f***ing off base you are. He didnt say Lance Armstrong is compareable to Hitler just that beating cancer doesnt make him a saint.. which is sometimes is the treatment he gets even through some questionable things. He didnt just beat cancer, look at all the people he has helped since he founded Livestrong. That in my mind makes him a saint. Anyone who can dedicate a portion of their life to a non-profit organization that helps thousands and thousands of people a year as well as funds extremely important research for treatment of a horrible disease is more than just "a guy who beat cancer."
