CWSGuy406
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al...nding-pat_x.htm The Chicago White Sox may be reeling, but after general manager Kenny Williams talked Wednesday with his three clubhouse leaders, he made the determination that no further trades are necessary. The White Sox pulled out of trade talks Thursday with the Washington Nationals for left fielder Alfonso Soriano, and barring an unexpected turn of events, Williams said the White Sox will defend their World Series title without making another deal before Monday's non-waiver trade deadline. "In today's information age, with all of the rumors, Internet stuff and constant barrage on radio and TV, it's actually caused a distraction," Williams said, "and I've got a distracted club right now. "I've let our young guys know they aren't going anywhere. After meeting with (Jim) Thome, (Paul) Konerko and (Jermaine) Dye and talking about the makeup of the club and the match-ups, they've made it very clear to me that we have enough. Wedge
when the term clubhouse leaders was used, I first thought it referred to Guilen, Cooper, and Walker instead of Thome, Konerko, and Dye
southsideirish71
Well tell Konerko and Thome to start mashing the ball again. And tell our pitchers to show the hell up.

GreatScott82
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) Damn it. Vazquez and/or Garcia have to go. We can't go into the stretch with a powerless power pitcher and a headcase. I think its kinda funny how everyone wants Garcia out of here when he has been one of our decent pitchers lately. Javier I can understand because he has been a headcase all year. But Buerhle has been down right terrible lately and im not hearing "Trade Mark now!" stuff. Honestly I think the 4 main pitchers will all come around. (Buerhle, Garland, Garcia and Contreras) I can see BMac in the rotation by September. Is a trade neccessary? Possibly but what possition player do we need to upgrade? Anderson has finally caught on. And Pods although struggling lately is still a decent threat on the basepaths. This team is talented enough to make the playoffs. They just need to adjust. Start playing the 'smartball' again. Homeruns are nice, but we need to manufacture runs once again. I'm seeing way too many runner left on base. Every hitter needs to stop going for the bleachers. Leave that for Thome and Pauly. I want to see more hit and runs, stolen bases, and sacrifices. Its time to get it right now and take one game at a time. I've said it before. We will win the next 5 of 6 and by the end of the week we will be 4.5 games behind detroit tied for 2nd place w/ the Twins. I expect big games from Freddy, Jon G and a solid 5 ONLY innings from Javy against the Orioles.

He will not have a solid start. --- In other words...start the clock, Kenny's going to do something. Just remember, negotiations with Jon Garland and Jose Contreras have broken off. Negotiations with Contreras' people had broken off. Contreras' agent wasn't talking anymore, and Jose saw KW at Spring Training, came over to say hello and ask if Kenny was mad at him because Kenny seemed like it, and then he found out that there were contract negotiations going on -- something his agent had been keeping from him! Immediately, he directed his agent to finish the deal, and within a few days Contreras was resigned. I know what you're saying, but that WAS the truth about Contreras. Yet, this doesn't mean he's done. He flies under the radar, and if a deal comes up that he can't pass up, he'll make the move. This article really doesn't mean much at all...I like that he talked to Thome, Konerko, and Dye about it though, that's pretty cool. This is going to be a fun next couple of months, lets get it started tomorrow with a W and move out from there. beck72
I was wondering if the trade deadline and the uncertainty surrounding who may or may not be around could have been a distraction. We'll know for sure if the sox start reeling off a few long winning streaks very soon after the deadline passes.
CWSOX45
Well let's see......how accurate have these insiders and experts been about possible trades? They haven't been right once.....I see a deal going down in the next 72 hours just because of Mr. Nightengale's report. I can't wait until the trade deadline has passed, I really think it is distracting our team.
beck72
If this is true, and KW talked with the three, and he stands pat, that's a heckava vote of confidence. Whether it works, who knows. But the sox do have the talent. Getting their minds right, and their confidence is key. What better way to instill confidence than giving the players input into personnel decisions. Dick Allen
Why would the trade deadline be a distraction to the White Sox, but not the Tigers or the Twins or the Yankees? They are rumored to do just as much. I wonder if Detroit gets Soriano and Minnesota gets Lee and the Yankees get whatever, because you know they will do something, what the reaction on this board is going to be if MacDougal and Alomar are the White Sox deadline answer. Does anyone remember in 1990 when the Sox were battling Oakland and the A's got Willie McGee and Harold Baines at the deadline, and the White Sox added Minnie Minoso who the commissioner at the time eventually vetoed, and Jerry Hairston so Hairston could meet a service time level on his pension? The most pissed off White Sox was none other than Ozzie Guillen.

What better way to instill confidence than giving the players input into personnel decisions. And honestly...those three deserve the respect. Konerko had a career year last year and became leader of the team. Dye quietly went about his business and *poof* he's the World Series MVP. And Thome is just a good ballplayer and seems like a good clubhouse guy. Plus, he's been around a long time. A player's only, closed door meeting can't be too far behind. Let's reel off some wins, boys!

Considering Konerko's quotes of still wanting Buerhle to have the ball if the 7th game of the WS was tomorrow, I really don't think he's the one to ask. Players are not the people to get roster advice from. They are too close to it. I have no doubt KW is still trying to improve this team. I think his quote was to show the team his confidence in them and to put them out on a limb if nothing does get done in the next couple of days. Like I said earlier, if the starting pitching doesn't improve, it really will not matter if KW acquires nobody else, or 3 or 4 All Stars. fathom
This board is going to erupt if the Twins add Lee, the Tigers add Soriano....and we do nothing. I'm not saying we have to make a major move, but some type of offensive spark would be great. It's so important for KW to add a righty outfielder who can play solid defense/run. Hell, bring back Darren Lewis from retirement.
