cortisonshot
I need help defending Magglio Ordonez and putting down Sosa on the Chicago Tribune Cubs Board under the title "Best All-Around Right Fielder in MLB" Please Help! Maggs RBI stats far exceeds Sosa's by about 400 RBI's during both of their first 6 years in MLB. See you there! http://forums.prospero.com/sp-tiicubs7 -Cortisonshot

Chisoxfn
Right now neither of them are the best. In the past you could argue either way. Maggs is the better all around player while Sosa has been the better offensive player (It is very close though). Given the choice i'd take Maggs. He's younger, and most likely will be signed cheaper and seems like a much better guy in the clubhouse. For best right fielders, I'd probably go with Vladdy. Haven't checked his stats this season though. I also love Ichiro and rank him as one of the best.

The only knock on Vladdy is his errors...12 in '97, 17 in '98, 19 in '99, 10 in '00, 12 in '01, 10 in '02. Other than that, he's the best IMO. The curse of having a cannon for an arm -- you tend to make lots more errors as a result. Vlad is the best. I'd take Magglio, then Sosa, then Ichiro after that. CubKilla
And people on this board laughed at me this offseason when I suggested the White Sox trade Maggs to the Expos for Vlad straight up

clujer420
And people on this board laughed at me this offseason when I suggested the White Sox trade Maggs to the Expos for Vlad straight up I don't think that's a trade either team would do. Vlad is better, but it's just not a trade that would make much sense. It's like trading $1,000,000 for $1,000,010. Sure, you're getting a better return, but by the time you count out all the bills, is it really worth it?
CubKilla
THey did??????????????? Of course it was a hypothetical, but I got my ass ripped even at the mention of the prospect. I didn't get it at the time. Blind love for Maggs I guess. "Untouchable" was thrown around alot by the Maggs backers

I'd of been all for it then, as long as they could sign him.

cortisonshot
Well, Well, Well - We now all know who the real Sammy Sosa is now, don't we! He is just artificial and a cheater. ISN'T THAT SPECIAL! He has to use CORK in his BAT in order to stay up at the Major League level. Well, Well, Well. Well throw away his career RBI and HR stats because he had to "juice" up his bat his whole career to get those numbers. This debate about Sammy & Maggs is now over! Maggs has better RBI stats than Sammy whether or not Sammy is using "juice" on his bat or something else to give him an unfair advantage! By the way, there is a rumor going around that anyone who brings "CORK" to the Cubs/Sox series at Comiskey Park will now get in at HALF PRICE! ISN'T THAT SPECIAL! -Church Lady ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not only is Ordonez 46% more productive than Sosa this year but I guess I am the only one willing to do the RBI stats for the first 6 MLB seasons for these two. Cortison, I am surprised you have not shown these incredible RBI stats! Let's compare total RBI's for Sosa & Ordonez during their first six major league seasons. Ordonez = 11+65+117+126+113+135=567 total Sosa= 3+10+13+70+33+25=154 total These are astonishing stats. Magglio is 368% more productive than Sosa during both of their first 6 major league baseball seasons. Magglio could take 3-4 major league seasons off and still be ahead of Sammy in RBI's. Sosa could not even drive in 100 or more runs until his 9th major league baseball season. This figure is just incredible and as a Cub fan I am embarrassed my fellow Cub fans on this board would even try to defend Sammy after looking at this outrageous stat! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TO ALL, OK I am willing to lay all the stats on the table. Here are Maggs & Sammy’s stats. Sammy has played longer than Maggs so has higher career numbers. Maggs is ahead of Sammy’s career pace thru both of their first six years in MLB. If you look at the stats over the last 3 years Sammy and Maggs are similar. My point is today Maggs is a better all around right fielder. Sammy is now on the down side of his career bell curve and Maggs is still climbing up that bell curve and has not yet reached its peak. Maggs http://www.baseball-reference.com/o/ordonma01.shtml Sosa http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/sosasa01.shtml ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PLEASE HELP ME ARGUE MY POINTS ON THE CUB BOARD TO THOSE CUBBIE KOOL-AID SIPPER SOSA-LOVERS! IT IS ME AGAINST ABOUT 30 CUB POSTERS. I HAVE HELD THEM OFF ALL ON MY OWN FOR ABOUT 350 POSTS NOW. ITS UNDER THE TOPIC "BEST ALL AROUND RIGHT FIELDER IN MLB". Thanks, Cortisonshot http://forums.prospero.com/n/mb/message.as...bs7&msg=1136.

Grebeck Fan Club
I don't really care who's better. The truth is Sosa is a nationally known guy, and Ordonez is a bit of a sleeper. The cork thing really died down in a hurry. People move on very quickly these days.

The cork thing really died down in a hurry. People move on very quickly these days. The cork thing will come back to life when the suspension is over. Sammy will keep doing his "warning track shot" hops, striking 50% of the time and grounding singles up the middle. And of course, when he gets to US Cell .... it will be the "Cork Capitol of the World". LOL
rafacosta
Vlad Guerrero. He will be FA in the end of this season, KW should dump some high salries like PK's, Frank's. And we can afford him, it would be great, Maggs in LF and Vlad in RF. But, i think that he is going to NY, probably Mets. :fyou MEts and Yankees. cortisonshot
Let's see now - One Chicago Right Fielder showed his defensive liabilities today by not being able to catch a routine fly ball. Who would that be? Same guy who can't hit the cutoff man, is a me-me player, is 350 RBI's behind the right fielder on the other side of town during both of their first 6 major league baseball seasons, is the guy known for striking out all the time, is probably on the "juice" & CORKS his bat to name a few of the many problems of this so-called superstar. You guessed it, the ballplayer is SAMMY SOSA! GO MAGGS!
