Garland Sick Today

Kind of explains why he wasn't as sharp as he has been. Medication can do that to a person. ;)

Garland improved to 11-3 overall and moved to 7-0 over his last nine starts, although he was anything but sharp on this particular afternoon. The right-hander yielded six earned runs on 11 hits during five-plus innings, striking out three and walking two, battling a sinus infection that began before his start last Sunday.

Guillen mentioned it was a health issue that has made its way around the clubhouse in recent weeks, although Garland said he didn't feel bad on the mound. It was the medication he took that seemed to affect his effort, by Garland's estimation.

"You can't really feel your body," said Garland of the resulting effect from his medication. "You don't know how good you feel or how bad you feel.

"It's one of those things where I wanted to go out and try to give the team quality innings. It turns out it wasn't a good day to be a pitcher on either side."

"I give him a lot of credit because he's got some cold, has been sick the past few days," Guillen said.

Hopefully it's gone by his next start.

I just love excuses!

It was incredibly hot there, and if he was actually sick (which is likely the case), then I feel sorry for him being out there for as long as he was.

I'm with ya... seen guys have worse conditions than Garland and perform very well. Some guys just refuse to let anything stop them or use as an excuse.

Its being sick on top of the weather conditions... none of our bullpen guys were sick and look how they fared... and our bullpen has been the strength as of late.

If your sick your sick. Being sick and pitching in 97 degree heat (what was the humidity and heat indez by the way?) and it wasn't going to be pretty. However, I think Garland really gave it his all and when he needed to make the big pitches he did. He got out of a lot of trouble and did it bu making big pitchers and letting the defense help.
