Chisoxfn
Figured we could have a new thread on this. Kenny has shown interest with him in the past and I'm not saying its very realistic, but Olney was on talking about Lidge and said it didn't seem he had much value on the trade market and than another report said the Astro's owner has pretty much demanded he would be moved. Olney went on to say teams are really concerned with him right now becuase he's all messed up. I took that to mean he's mentally screwed up right now and usually a change of scenario can be exactly what fixes a team. The only problem is we don't really need a guy like Lidge, but it does give us the option of moving Brandon into the rotation and makes the pen very deep. Plus, if you get value for Lidge and get things out of him, you can always swing talent for other talent in the off-season. So while this may not make sense long term, it could be a decent short term plan where he helps us, rebuilds his value and than we swing him for more (especially if its true and the value for lidge in terms of players given up is quite low). Gregory Pratt
I wonder how he'd react to being on the same team as Podsednik and Dye. I remember when Iguchi hit the grand slam off of Lidge -- oh, man, Lidge looked so scared of the bat when he was pitching to Podsednik, and it cracked me up. I knew he would walk him after the second pitch, and I knew it'd burn him, too.
RockRaines
It just makes sense for us. Trade Vaz+ someone else, pick up Lidge, put BMAC into rotation.

Lidge can't make it out of one. Maybe Coop can straighten him out if he is physically healthy.

Lidge 2006 Salary: $3,975,000 Age: 29 ERA 5.77 WHIP 1.45 BAA .241 Vazquez 2006 Salary: $12,000,000 Age: 30 ERA 5.40 WHIP 1.36 BAA .275 We save some money as well. It would be nice. However, Houston asked Texas for Carlos Lee today when talking trade for Lidge. That is a pretty steep asking price. I guess Buehrle and Latroy Hawkins are also equals because their numbers are similar this season?
Gregory Pratt
Plus, Lidge's ERA was heavily inflated by his game against the Sox. He's been rough this year, but we really stuck it up his ass.
RockRaines
If Hou wants to get rid of Vaz, they better be lowering the price. He is not elite anymore.

zygoat
i would not trade Vaz for Lidge. Here are my reasons. 1. Vaz is a solid pitcher through 5 innings, and if he doenst come in the 6th, he's fine 2. Lidge is really screwed up and sucks at pitching this year 3. Starting pitching needs to remain deep in our situation, because if we only have 5 starters, and one goes down, who comes in? 4. Vaz had a great speech on comcast and he sounded pissed that he sucks so far this year. Im expecting a turnaround

Im expecting a turnaround Vazquez was pissed that he sucked with the Yankees, his attitude has never been a problem. For all his talent, he just isn't very good. It was interesting yesterday that coming into the game both Vazquez and Bruce Chen were 1 under .500 in their careers, and both had similar career ERAs. Chen has been on almost every team in the major leagues. Vazquez makes $12 million a year. Someone was very stupid to give Vazquez that contract. chisox56
the way i see it we could have traded for him and built him back up starting at the lower end of the pen and work him up then ship him off in the off season he could help us now and later when his value would be real high Edited August 1, 2006 by dyenamite23

Javier Vazquez is just simply a bad pitcher. Teams have been finding it out the hard way for a few years now. It's all around baseball now. Teams now understand that he's just trash. Unfortunately, they all figured it out while he was on the Sox, so we won't be getting very much for him. And before you make the argument, Javier Vazquez is not Jose Contreras.
