southsideirish
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Great arm=4.17 ERA? BMAC is a good starter, better than Vaz. Taking him out of the pen and putting him into the rotation improves the entire staff. So then you want to take that 4.17 ERA arm and place him in the starting rotation? That improves the starting staff when he has a 4.17 ERA when he only throws a couple innings at the most per outing? You are making a case against BMAC and then want him in the starting rotation at the same time. Asinine.

southsideirish
QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We want to get Vazquez and his high paycheck out of Chicago. Not to mention BMac hasn't been showing a "great arm" out of the pen this year. He's probably our second to worst reliever. So he has shown a not so great arm this year in the pen? I can see why you want him to start. Don't base it on last year. If that was the case then our rotation is set and we wouldn't be having this conversation at all. In fact McCarthy didn't pitch well at all until August of last year. He was horrible as a starter until we needed him in August. He was horrible with the Sox earlier in the year as a starter. So what exactly are you basing this on? His stats from August-September? That is why you want him in the rotation? Maybe he will be even better this year out of the pen starting tomorrow. Who knows!?!?! QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, he is better in the rotation than in the pen. He is a starter. Ass-nines. based on last year's starts? Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) Coco Crisp offered for Mark Buehrle and Brad WIlkerson offered for one of our starters? What is up with that? Aren't starting pitchers at a premium? Shouldn't we be getting better offers than this? I just find this ridiculous. But according to some last offseason, if we wait until July's trading deadline a team will certaintly overpay for one of our VAUNTED starters! I knew something like this would occur. It's logical -- if all our starters were performing up to their expectations there would be no need to move them. How often do contending teams move performing starters? Only reason they'd be trade bait is if their numbers regressed. Which is exactly what has happened. Williams should have traded either Garland or Garcia while their value was at its peak. Vazquez likely would have been acquired regardless, but McCarthy would have been inserted the rotation and whichever pitchers were obtained from Garland/Garcia would undoubtedly be in the bullpen. Guest JimH
If they add a reliever either they go with 12 pitchers and a position player gets dropped, or they send down McCarthy and stretch him out. Which makes sense, then you bring him up assuming he does ok vs. AAA hitters which I'd suspect he would. And you give one of these other guys a rest ... physical or mental or both, 15 day DL. I am just a fan, but to my eyes Garcia is fatigued, Buehrle is fatigued, and Vazquez is mentally messed up.

There are a lot of ifs in the first part to make this realistic.
