Milkman delivers
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) hes got a great Arm, so id rather keep him in RF I don't mean I'd move him now. I'm just saying I think he's more suited to LF because of his speed.
whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) Jermaine Dye has a $6M team option next year, he currently has a 1.030 OPS. Anyone who doesn't think Jermaine Dye will be on this team next season is dead wrong. If your OPS is over 1.000 with .320/40+/100+ and your due 6 million dollars next season, you can pretty much pick your nose and eat it rather than play defense and your still underpaid. Guest JimH
Sounds like our LF play this season. Are you trying to beat your own previously established world record for "most posts bashing Podsednik in one day" ? I mean, it's not as if your opinion on that subject isn't abundantly clear by now. I mean, it's not as if your opinion on that subject isn't abundantly clear by now. I just thought it was funny because someone over the wknd compared Pods defense to that of a kid picking their nose out there. And FWIW, that comment was just as much a shot at Ozuna as it was Pods. I love Ozuna's hustle, but he shouldn't be playing in the outfield in the majors unless it's during batting practice. The Ginger Kid
He's lost a step but always lays out for a ball whenever he has to. I still cringe watching that catch in Anaheim where it looked like he broke his ribs on the top of the short wall. JD's a gamer.

I still cringe watching that catch in Anaheim where it looked like he broke his ribs on the top of the short wall. JD's a gamer. He's been fantastic in his season and a half with the Sox going back on the ball. He doesn't shy away from the fence (something Ordonez struggled with). LVSoxFan
I agree that he's faster than people think; because he has such long legs, it looks like he's running slower than he is. And I also agree he doesn't shy away from the fence. I really have on qualms about RF right now.

SadChiSoxFanOptimist
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) Why is that? Here's his deal: White Sox | Dye Signs Thu, 9 Dec 2004 09:02:34 -0800 Dye will be paid $4 million in 2005 and $5 million in 2006 with the club holding an option for 2007 at $6 million (with a buyout of $1.15 million). Simple... After this bummer year of homer ball, Kenny will look to improve this team, including getting younger and faster. Although JD hasn't lost much and he's relatively inexpensive, he is on the decline. I'm guessing that the Sox will see his contract as an opportunity to change the profile of this team. Jermaine Dye is NOT the problem, if you're trying to assign the blame here.

So what makes you dislike Jermaine? His 29 homers, 78 RBI's, 1.000 plus OPS, league leading slugging percentage, slightly above average defense, near .400 on base, cheap price tag, quiet mouth, or World Series MVP award from last year? This teams problem stands 60 feet, 6 inches from the plate every game, not in the batters box itself.

This teams problem stands 60 feet, 6 inches from the plate every game, not in the batters box itself. I don't dislike Jermaine at all! I think he's been a terrific add for the Sox, and almost an even replacement for Maggs as a better team member at a reasonable salary. We both know that JD wasn't the WS MVP last year -- it was Crede and the starters. Jermaine will be 33. I disagree that the's above average OF. He's slowing down, makes some strong plays and butchers others. He's just an average RF'r in a below average OF. As other posters note, he (nor any of the other Sox OFrs that I can recall) haven't thrown out any runners at the plate...Think about how many SOX players have been thrown out! We've seen JDs best days and it's downhill from here. The Sox cannot ignore ANY opportunity to improve OF defense, increase team speed and overall "small ball" offensive execution if we want to remain competitive with the Tigers and Twins in the toughest division in baseball. (Improved pitching will help too... ) We need focus on the team, not just love the players. After 2005 Kenny Williams doesn't have to find cheap players and hope they play beyond their best years. He'll have zero loyalty to past accomplishments and total focus on improving all areas of this team.
