DBAHO
If there's an opening in our rotation (with B-Mac in it) Mulder would be a guy I'd look at on an incentive laden deal. Yeah he's been terrible this season but he's been hurt. Plus he's an Illinois native, and he has 4 seasons from 01-05 of an ERA under 4. DBAHO
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) Doesn't Mulder have a messed up hip?? I think that is what's causing most of his problems...IMO Shoulder problems; Mark Mulder (shoulder) could make a minor league rehab start on August 6. Mulder felt great after a 122-pitch simulated game on Wednesday. He has been out since June 10 when he felt irritation in his left shoulder. CWSGuy406
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 07:45 AM) Doesn't Mulder have a messed up hip?? I think that is what's causing most of his problems...IMO Yeah, Mulder's definitely been real bad this year. Plus, the Sox can't afford to take a chance on a 'reclamation' project. I don't know why you posted the whole reliever list. I'd say our bullpen is set next year with Jenks, MacDougal, Thorton, and Cotts already there, along with a small shot of Riske being resigned. And then there's Boone Logan and Sean Tracey who will probably be given shots to win the last spot in the 'pen. None of those OFers look too appealing, either. We'll have a spot open in LF, and that really might be it. I could see the Sox standing pat and going with Sweeney in left. I think Kenny might go nuts to get a real dominant starting pitcher (Oswalt?).
Chisoxfn
Why in the heck with him coming back from a shoulder injury would you have him throw a 122 pitch simulated game (or do they count the warmup tosses as pitches??). I think Kenny might go nuts to get a real dominant starting pitcher (Oswalt?). Ya, I think it will be trade market or bust with maybe a bench signing or a potential swing man. Whether its Oswalt, moving one or two of our starters, going after a guy like Crawford and/or Oswalt or whomever it seems like the best way to potentially fill our needs would be via trade. CWSGuy406
FWIW, I'm not pulling the Oswalt name just out of anywhere. He apparently wasn't too happy about the deadline talk with his name included... http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...sp&c_id=mlb But hearing his name in trade talks involving the Orioles, among other teams, didn't help. Oswalt is upset that he was mentioned in a potential package, along with Adam Everett and perhaps Morgan Ensberg, for superstar shortstop Miguel Tejada. He feels the Astros have not been honest with him regarding their desire to keep him as an Astro, and in that respect, he'll have no qualms about testing the free-agent market next year. Oswalt is not opposed to signing a long-term deal with Houston, but that deal, he said, needs to be reached before the current season is over. And he's looking for a five-year contract. .... DBAHO
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) Yeah, Mulder's definitely been real bad this year. Plus, the Sox can't afford to take a chance on a 'reclamation' project. I'd have Mulder as a contingency plan if Kenny wasn't able to pull the trigger on a deal for a guy like Oswalt. FWIW on Roy, the Astros will most likely want a big bat now, so if we wanted to get him, we may have try and turn it into a 3 way deal, which is what Theo Epstein tried to do with the Braves. Also, I think we know it's probably likely that Pods won't be back next season. A guy like David Delucci caught my eye a little. Philly traded Abreu to dump payroll money, but to also allow Delucci to play more. He can hit leadoff and can play all 3 OF positions. Here are his splits from the past 2 seasons in Texas and this season in Philly; 04 - .242/.342/.441 05 - .251/.367/.513 06 - .315/.365/.589 Problem is he can't hit lefties at all, so he's basically a more powerful version of Pods who can probably field better. Hence he would have to be platooned with a guy like Ozuna.
Capn12
I'll be perfectly content with just a couple things this off-season: 1) Turn Freddy Garcia into a new leadoff hitting LFer 2) Tell Pods, "Thanks for 2 seasons. GL on the FA market." 3) Insert BMac into the rotation. 4) Resign Riske if healthy, get a long reliever/mop up pitcher = Win!
GoodAsGould
He is having a great season this year and all.. but if the Astro's want a hitter how about Jermaine Dye? His value probably will never be higher than it will at the end of the season and it would prob take another prospect like Broadway but to get Oswalt its well worth it. Than we could deal both Vazquez and Garcia in the off-season for missing parts or reloading the farm or whatevr. 95% chance if not more it wont happen... but its a thought i guess. Would make the 2007 team closer to the 2005 team.

Milkman delivers
I would maybe like Dave Roberts as the 4th OFer. He can play CF, right? Felix
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) Why are we replacing Uribe next year? Apparently because he's one the worst batters in the league. I, for one, think he's a perfect fit on the team since the pitchers are contact pitchers, and rely on superb defense to help them out. Just me though. His offense isn't the best, and his eye is horrible, but he's streaky and he has the ability to carry the team when he's hot.
Balta1701
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 08:09 AM) Why are we replacing Uribe next year? Seems he "doesn't care." whitesoxfan101
I like Lugo and Matthews, but they are both going to be overpaid. I also like Catalanatto, but then again I've wanted him for 4 years so maybe that's just me. And for reasons of which I'm not sure, the Zito whispers are starting to be heard. I hope THAT is true, but I'd be shocked.

Other than that, maybe get someone to repalce Riske (or re-sign him), a swingman, LFer, and perhaps Oswalt. Hm, that's actually a lot. Not really. It might be blasphemy to suggest so early, but we're a team in good position to contend for a Threepeat Title. I'd love it if we could get Oswalt or Zito. I don't know anything about the prospects of picking up Oswalt, but I do know that there are a lot of people who don't think we have the money for Zito, or that we should give him his money. I think that, in Barry's case, we let him walk if he demands the arm-and-a-leg expected, but we should go into that hunt. Oswalt would be nice. In a perfect world, we'd get rid of both Freddy and Javier for Mac and someone better. A Left Fielder wouldn't be too bad, and I wouldn't be too upset if Pods got replaced, but I wouldn't jump for joy, either. I like Scotty. T R U
Sign Gary Mathews JR. to play LF, Sign Daryle Ward to replace Gload, Sign another reliever.. if possible trade both Garcia and Vazquez replace them with BMac and like DBAHO said sign Mulder to an incentive deal.. Those moves would be fine with me.. but man, I wish we could get Oswalt.. Hes better than every pitcher we have and would be an awesome addition.. Itd give us a SP who can throw in the upper 90's with some pretty nasty breaking stuff..
