Ya, I think it will be trade market or bust with maybe a bench signing or a potential swing man. Whether its Oswalt, moving one or two of our starters, going after a guy like Crawford and/or Oswalt or whomever it seems like the best way to potentially fill our needs would be via trade.

I'd have Mulder as a contingency plan if Kenny wasn't able to pull the trigger on a deal for a guy like Oswalt. FWIW on Roy, the Astros will most likely want a big bat now, so if we wanted to get him, we may have try and turn it into a 3 way deal, which is what Theo Epstein tried to do with the Braves.

 

Also, I think we know it's probably likely that Pods won't be back next season. A guy like David Delucci caught my eye a little. Philly traded Abreu to dump payroll money, but to also allow Delucci to play more.

 

He can hit leadoff and can play all 3 OF positions. Here are his splits from the past 2 seasons in Texas and this season in Philly;

Problem is he can't hit lefties at all, so he's basically a more powerful version of Pods who can probably field better. Hence he would have to be platooned with a guy like Ozuna.

His value probably will never be higher than it will at the end of the season and it would prob take another prospect like Broadway but to get Oswalt its well worth it.
