well at least were wasting away bmac in a lost cause now. I held on and didn't put my input till now. Burhle was d o n e during that 7th inning, especially when 2 men reached. But when i saw ozzie stroll out there you could tell he was gonna leave him in, and it was just the worst managing move this year, at the top, and maybe there's calls that were as bad this year by ozzie, but this was easily AS bad as any.

For god sake burhle is LUCKY anytime he makes it through 6 with only 3ER. He doesn't deserve the opportunity for a win when he's throwin 84-86 (with 1in15 chance he makes it to 88-90mph) meatballs and breaking balls that just don't work anymore with his velocity. He needs some damn rest and won't be the same till he gets the velocity back.

You have to take him out.... and even the espn guys were quite and kinda mumbling like.... jesus here's crazy ozzie but lets see if it works. If you have a pitcher with electric STUFF then you can maybe leave him in. You don't leave in a soft lefty against 2!!! righties, back to back, who BOTH have HR's in the game at that point.

Unbelievable, and thank god I didn't have to listen to Hawk prolly throw out every excuse in the book. wow wow wow wow.

it's a shame that too many people live in fantasyland and just cannot see the truth and look objectively. there is NOTHING that points to this team winning anything.

Yes, nothing other than the team is still in the wildcard race. You act as if this team is 40 games under .500, when in reality it is still among the leagues best. The season is NOT over, and if you say so, you are only kidding yourself. This team has enough talent to make the playoffs, now they just have to do it.

Okay, well you show me and prove to me that this happens year after year after year to the championship teams' pitchers. And, if you do this successfully, you'll probably make yourself a lot of cash along with it, because I'd tend to think that that would be a rather large finding.

Mmkay? Till then, your theory stinks of BS. ;)

So you disagree that a long postseason run, with a lot of tight games, won't possibly influence a pitcher's ability for the next season? I thought it was a pretty common theory in baseball that these pitchers have a hard time bouncing back the following year after the added innings/stress.

Anyone who says this team has NO chance right now is just setting it up so they could act like they knew it all along if it happens.

maybe after 4 or 5 straight years in the playoffs. not after 1 postseason run

Was that Pods that dropped it in the first row?

No, probably just looks like him. I bet he can hit better than Pods though. :P

Here comes Shields.....not good.

Yep. It's almost as if they take pride in seeing their team losing just to prove themselves right.

That was a long time ago, and the steroid era gave everyone more strength/stamina than they have now. The Braves have seen their pitching deteriorate almost every season for quite a while now. However, they also had the advantage that two of their starters are soft-tossers...and future HOFers.

It wasn't that long ago...and the Btaves pitchers simply got old. These guys aren't old. And there's no proof that any pitchers on either team were on steroids. Not that it means anything, but there's no proof.

I'm a pessimist, but I'll never say this team has no chance. As some of us have mentioned, we'll know a lot more about this team after the next 2 weeks. If we play bad, we're in a lot of trouble.

Flash when this is happening with one pitcher who struggles and isnt pulled then you can see this is a problem with the pitcher. But when we have had the last 3 losses all due to being down by a run late in a game, and then 2 guys get on, a conference between the manager and the pitcher happens then implosion. If it happens once, sure, but this is 3 times in 5 games When you get into the 7th inning and you are down by a run, you need to play the percentages. My 9 million dollar pitcher has a near 5 ERA. Is he going to give me the best chance to keep this game close or the fresh arm out of the pen.

Guillen spoke to Buehrle before he surrendered the three runs? I completely missed this part, as I switched channels for perhaps a minute and returned to Buehrle pitching with bases loaded. :bang

This changes the order of my hierarchy completely. If Guillen thought enough of Buehrle's performance to physically visit him on the mound, he should have taken into account Mark's troubles and the depth of his bullpen.

Doesn't change my feelings of Buehrle. It's past a "slump." We need our starting rotation, as an entire unit, to collectively string together quality outings. I'd like to believe Garland/Contreras/Vazquez/Garcia can compensate for Buehlre, but unfortunately, I can't. We're going to be in trouble if this is the Mark Buehrle we're left with the remainder of this season.

Then will someone please explain to me why basically every pitcher we have has lost velocity this season? I can't think of anyone who hasn't dropped a few mph.

It's too bad the Cards don't have a loaded farm system. If they did, we could get ourselves a "Mulder" package for Buehrle possibly.

The Sox still have a chance for the playoffs. But Buerhle is going to have to turn it around. Garcia is going to have to pitch much better. Vazquez has to show last outing wasn't a fluke. Contreras has to start pitching like he did before his back injury, and Garland has to keep pitchng like he has lately. The offense is stressed out. They need to score 6 or 7 almost every game to have a chance. That will take a toll.
