SoxAce
Man, I'm never doing this again. But here ya go Willie. One note that I would like to point out. Chris Carter was named Topps Player of the Month. So congrats to Chris. Edited August 9, 2006 by SoxAce
CWSGuy406
I'm starting to grow a little more optimistic with Sweeney. I liked the 'package' (for lack of a better word) that I saw in the couple of Spring Training games I saw, but he never backed it up with production. Now, I understand that for the most part of his career, he's been young for his league. This year, however, it has seemed to be different. He's basically gotten better, statistically speaking, every month. His slugging percentage has improved every month; 385, to 413, to 436, to 485, to (in limited August ABs) 625. Right now, it sits just shy of .450. To put that into perspective, he didn't even slug .450 in rookie ball! While I also realize that there is a large discrepency in how he hits at Charlotte as opposed to on the road, neither his OBP or BA suffer. His BAPIP is actually higher on the road. I personally don't view Sweeney as a future replacement for Jermaine Dye. I just can't see Sweeney, in as soon as three years, being a 25-35 homer guy, which is what we'd lose if Dye went (I'm talking about 2009 and beyond -- I hope JD is here for beyond 2007). If Sweeney continues his improvement throughout the rest of the season, though, I think he might be in the mix to be the starting LFer next year. Tom, or anyone else who has seen him live -- I thought I remember you guys saying that Sweeney would be an above average LFer. Can someone describe his defense? I assume he's doing a pretty damn good job out in left for Razor to be putting him in CF some (most?) days...
danman31
Egbert is rolling, he'll easily be a top 10 prospect for the Sox if he puts up similar numbers in AA. Salvador Sanchez with a HR, I totally forgot about him. There's a ton of 'talented' bats on that team that have disappointed (Sanchez, Gomes, Orlando, Hernandez, Allen). You could almost throw in Carter to that mix, but he's at least a year younger than those guys. The Sox seem to the young pros play in rookie ball until they are 20 and then force them to stay in Kanny. If even 2 of the 5 guys I mentioned can turn it around it will be huge for this system as they have no depth as we have pointed out numerous times on this board. Yeah Egbert's had a very solid season for the Warthogs. Will be interesting to see how he does in B-Ham. So far Russell and Harrell haven't had good starts since making the jump, but Whisler had an excellent 1st one.

I assume he's doing a pretty damn good job out in left for Razor to be putting him in CF some (most?) days... Well, I haven't seen him play live, and I know you asked for someone who has, but I would like to point out that (IIRC) he has a cannon of an arm, which is a big reason he's projected to play RF. When we drafted him, he was also a very good pitching prospect, and even pegged by some teams as a player that would pitch if he had been drafted by one of those teams. Anyway, I'm not sure about the type of range he has, but like you said, he has been playing some CF in AAA, so he has to be pretty good defensively to be able to play there more than just once or twice. I will be watching carefully after his promotion because the Carolina League is pretty weak offensively this season.
