Thome not going for the Long Ball?

He has 3 Hr's since July 16th. After having 10 each in April and May and 8 in July ( 6 of those being in the first 2 weeks. )

He has leveled off of late . I think he may be trying to beat those shifts and not pulling as much. He improved so much at hitting opposite field since April. Maybe saving his last wind for October.

What does everyone else think? Maybe a Sore back? Maybe that is having him push singles and doubles instead of going for solo bombs.

I'm wondering if his wrist is hurting him more than anybody really knows. Man I'd love to see JD in that 3 hole. Hey...look what moving him to 3 did last year late. As for Jim...I know he's getting frustrated...but it's also frustrating seeing constant ground balls to 2nd too.

Maybe if, I mean, WHEN the Sox sweep the Tigers this weekend, Thome and the team can afford a few off days for him next week with KC in town??? I can't help thinking that his minor injuries are adding up and bothering him more than he's letting on. I'm not saying KC should be overlooked, but a few days rest (again) might do him some good.

He just doesn't look right at the plate right now. When he came to bat with the Sox down a run against Rivera vs. the Yanks the other night, I wanted him up, but for some reason, I could feel he was going to make an out.

Rivera is absolute murder on lefties. For example, this year, lefties are hitting .194 against Rivera, with 0 dingers and a dominant .451 OPS, while Righties have a non-great but better .254, 2 home runs, and .652 OPS. Lefties simply have no chance against him.

I'm thinking that the Yankees not going with the shift might have made Thome more pull-cautious. He saw that he had more of an opening on the right side, and he was getting way out in front of everything. He's so much more dangerous when he's hitting the ball from left center to center.

That pitch from Rivera to Thome in the 7-6 loss drifted right down the middle. When I saw the location and Thome about to swing I was all ready to yell my head off. I couldn't belive he beat it into the ground. I'd say nagging injuries must be slowing him down a bit. The Thome of April and May would have driven that low but right fown the middle pitch a long way.

I can't vouge for that, but I do think he's become a more complete hitter as of late. I don't have any stats to back it up, just what I've seen from my eyes (and thats typically what I use to evaluate things).

The 2seamer/cutter are freaking murder on lefties. The man knows how to tie em up inside.

You are not the only one who thought that.

I saw the location, I saw where the ball was going to connect with the bat, and I celebrated for a tenth of a second.
