Keep in mind, this interview was on Al-Jazeera... Kickin' some arse... i didnt watch the whole thing... why does "ripping islam" make her a courageous woman? NorthSideSox72
I got some sort of error. But in any case, I have the same question as Reddy - how is ripping a religion of 1 billion people "courageous"? I'm not seeing it.
GoodAsGould
yeah every religion has its extremist....it doesnt make it right to "rip" a religion.
Rex Kickass
The people who tipped off the British about the plane bombing plot were also muslim.
CanOfCorn
I'll tell you why it's courageous.... She is a former Muslim...a WOMAN...and is saying all of this on Al-Jazeera. She's standing up and courageously saying that what is happening is happening because some Muslims are ignorant to the ways of other religions. Not all, not most, not many, but some. She's basically telling a male-centric society that they are wrong. I personally think that's courageous.

There are "some" ignorant people in all religions.... nothing really courageous about saying it about 1 particular religion or another. Yes in the middle east its male dominated but who are we to judge what is right or wrong....

Here we have billions being discriminated against because of gender, yet who are we to judge?
Pale Hose Jon
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 03:33 AM) Male dominated. That's like calling Lake Michigan moist. They treat their women like dogs. Here we have billions being discriminated against because of gender, yet who are we to judge? Realistically if you were to look at the middle east, the only two states that are male dominated would be Afghanistan, who has seen a resurgence in the Taliban, and Saudi Arabia, who happens to be best friends with the US. Many other states have been very progressive, like Kuwait, which just gave sufferage to women, although women did enjoy all other rights. So basically other than two states, Women are not treated like "dogs."
Rex Kickass
Well, although rights are afforded to women in Iraq and Iran, I wouldn't call them the most progressive of middle eastern states. Especially in Iraq, the chaos has made women especially unsafe.

Ive been to the middle east multiple times... and yes there are some incidents especially in the poorer places where the women are treated like crap but you way over-exagerate. And most of the time the woman accept and embrace the way they are treated...Its an entire different culture.. you cant judge it on our values.
