Attendance

The latest from Phil Rogers. Here's an interesting pertinant quote:

This summer, so have their fans. An unlikely event will happen Monday night when the Sox play Kansas City. They will pass the Cubs in season attendance.

Sure, they have played more home games, so this doesn't mean they will finish ahead of the Cubs in attendance. But something's going on when Jerry Reinsdorf's baseball team has had 18 straight sellouts.

Attendance has been totally incredible.

So much for all those arguments in the past: bad neighborhood, bad traffic, bullet coming from the projects

into the stadium, it's a Cubs town, blah blah.

Give em a great product and they have proven they will come.

Now that Reinsdorf has been given a taste of winning; he's got to be wishing he did this 15 years ago.

Because of the capacity, that is going to be nearly impossible to get.

You could defintely get it if we draw like we did the last 18 games the rest of the year, as every game has been between 38,800 and 39,300. However, that would mean sellouts just about every game the rest of the year, with no letdowns, so it's unlikely.

Official capacity of Comiskey Park II is 40615 so as Steff would say, it's doable ;)

The attendence for sellouts is usually way less than that because of comp tickets. For example yesterday we drew 38,931 for a sellout. Really all it would take is one game of 30,000 vs the Royals and we would be pretty well screwed.

I don't know what capacity is officially, but a real regular season sellout is between 38,800 and 39,500 because of the giveaways and such like mentioned. It's almost impossible to draw anymore than that for a RS game.

Btw....we've only had 2 crowds all year above 39,509. The largest crowd all year was the opener against the Yanks Tuesday (39,872), and a crowd of 39,750 showed up on Monday, July 24th for a 7-4 loss in the opener of that horrid Twins series.

Awesome, looks like someone else recognizes JD for MVP as well! Nice WhiteSoxFan101! I've had this as my sig since May. Hopefully the rest of the league recognizes JD's importance to our team and considers him for MVP voting.

As for the attendance, its awesome! Even w/ the Dan Ryan disaster, the place is packed every nite. This is totally a White Sox town! Of course people say they are all just fair weather fans, I say they are smart fans! Why support a losing product like they do on the northside? Although many of us have supported our Sox through thick and thin over the years, many others just wouldn't support a losing product. I cant blaim them for not coming. There has always been a lot of Sox fans. Now they officially burrowed out of their holes. Its amazing what winning the title does for a city and an organization. I love the White Sox!
