I can't say I'm surprised at all by the latest twist. . .

Sucks for the family, I really feel for them to feel like they might have resolution and then have that snatched away. . .

It really sucks for the family in the sense that this other guy isn't guilty of the crime they almost definitely committed.

And does this guy get some sort of punishment for lying about something of this magnitude?

Charges that are possible and come to mind:

--Obstruction of Justice

--Fraud with a special instrument

--Possible violations of federal visa regulations

Plus he could get sued in civil court.

And I am not sure how often it happens, but yes, the US could indeed send this guy back to Thailand, where he could be charged with their equivalent of flight to evade, in addition to whatever he was already charged with. His life would become hell on earth.

I can't say I'm surprised about any of this.

Drudge is now running that he'll be charged in CA for possession of child pornography.

I was mostly thinking of her brother, but yeah, why feel bad for him?

I think that he should get a psych eval, because that guy is NOT all there.

Which were the charges he fled from, correct?

Well... he fled those to Thailand, then effectively fled Thailand from the charges there. Since Cali is here in the states, they and CO will get first crack, probably. Though I'd really love it if they sent him back to Thailand.

If he's psychologically confused and genuinely believes he committed the murder, how can you charge him with making a false statement?

If you don't know you're telling a lie, are you really telling a lie - legally?

I don't believe that. Of course, I haven't spoken to the guy. But I've spoken to more than one sex offender against children, and there is a common thread there - its not that they don't know what they are doing - its that they think its right. Seriously.

I have been reading that he was under investigation in Thailand, but not to the point of about to be charged. Though I haven't read everything about him so I may have missed it. Has JB's father made any statement since they announced they were not filing charges? Also, has Burke made any comments?

Cleared due to lack of evidence, not due to any sort of specific contravention. That can change.

DNA evidence didn't match anyone in the family. If it's good enough to clear this nut, why isn't it good enough to clear them?

Because more than one person was involved.

Karr is a nut case, and there was more than a lack of DNA speaking against him.

I'd love to hear your theory.

In any event, there was no DNA from a family member in that house pointing to them being one of the ones that twisted the garrot or bled in her underpants or being the one that she scratched.

I was watching Anderson Cooper 360 last night and they did a timeline of suspects and I didn't know this, but a guy commited suicide soon after the murder that was beeing looked into. Supposedly he had handwriting similar to the ransom note and aslo had 3 letters on a hat that were signed at the bottom of the ransom note.

I don't know know too much more though.

It was freaky because thise couple was first investigated, they play Santa every year in the community and a few weeks before she was killed, they gave Jon benet a card that said, "You'll get something very special after Christmas."

FWIW, the family was cleared twice.

Yep the family was cleared twice I am 99.9% positive the family had nothing to do with this. If this was some kind of family conspiracy with outside help there would have been a trail.

I agree on the trail, which is why I don't believe most conspiracy theories of that sort. Except here, the investigation was so thoroughly bumbled, that any trail that was there has been broken in too many places. No one will ever be successfully prosecuted in this case, family or otherwise.

Yeah I keep forgetting how sloppy the police work on this case was. It would have taken someone who wasn't a previous sex offender or had a criminal record but with the sloppy investigation it is hard to tell how many fingerprints were messed up or flat out missed.

  • 1 month later...

We in class have been studying another case that it looks like the Boulder DA has messed up. The Baby Jayson case also appears to have been a very sloppy job as well. Jayson died March 4th after suffering "blunt-force craniocerebral injuries." Jayson also had 22 broken bones all before he could reach the age of 11 weeks. The case has been ruled a homicide back in July with every brain expert under the sun saying it was murder and the parents as soon as they arrived at the hospital they called there lawyers and as soon as police officer came to talk with them the brother made sure he could not talk with the family and started a confrontation. 7 months later the parents still have refused to talk and have gone into hiding. So why after 7 months is there no arrests or even any suspects yet? I think Boulder will be looking for a new DA.
