upnorthsox
So Ncorgbl, I assume from what I've read that you are a minority owner(and I HATE assuming). If so, could you answer a couple of ?????'s I've had? What are the ownership % for JR and EE? What do you see as the outcome of the appearent reimergence of EE on the scene? Is there a reimergence? Finally, why is Rob Gallas still hired and who does he have pictures of?
Rex Hudler
Interesting group of questions UNS. LOL So, ncorgbl, who is effectively running the baseball operations right now? If trades were to be made or someone was to be released or sent down, who is making those calls? How involved is Roland Hemond (one of the most genuine guys I have ever met)? And what is the roster move they are going to make either today or tomorrow? Inquiring minds want to know.

I really don't know the exact percentage, though I probably should, it never much mattered to me, though I know no stockholder has even half the shares of either JR or EE. With some of the originals having passed away and families taking over and splitting estates, it's nothing I've kept track of. Sorry. One of the things JR gets angry with me about is the same question you ask about Gallas. I am no fan of his at all. Einhorn is making all the day to day decisions, and Roland is Eddie's guy, a fine choice, too. I sincerely believe this thing will come around. upnorthsox
Hey Rex, long time no read. Was just down in your neck of the woods(well the Smokies) and was kinda surprised to see after 10 days away that FT had taken over all the O team stats. Btw, I've also heard that Bill Gleason story a few times and there was also more to the Harry Caray rift and if ya don't believe me ask Lou. BrandoFan
of course there's no way to prove it was 'finalized'. it doesn't matter. you know it was and i know it was. why wouldn't i finalize it? who wouldn't? Well that's for you to know and for me not to care about, isn't it? You motives and actions are your own responsibility. it was a stupid bet on your part (mostly the 20 stolen bases part because he'd never stolen 20 in his life) and i jumped at it. He stole 19 out of 21 in 2000, a rare year when he was healthy enough to play a full season. I probably should have taken into account 2001 hamstring-induced trips to DL and the fact that Sox became Solo Shot Wonders that year, with Manuel getting away from the whole "winning small-ball" thing as Roman noted...You shouldn't have f***ed around with me about the bet, it was easy 200 you coulda have. and you're right about there being 4 or 5 posts. the initial ones leading up to the last one which was the actual bet. why should i save the others? Of course I am right, there was no bet. Saving those additional posts and parts of the message you included on SoxTalk might go a long way toward clearing this mess up...The key word is might. anyway, let's drop it. it's useless to carry on, obviously. It was dropped before you even brought it up, my friend. The bet never took place and frankly I don't even care if you know it or not. I never bet, never have. Almost doesn't count--and that goes for "real world" as well. i will say this. your spelling and grammer has improved greatly since you were dima. that's why i was never sure it was you. Don't be fooled- I am as stupid as I ever was...LOL the mariah comment seemed to indicate it was but then you could have simply seen our conversations about her. Always paranoid, always on alert, aren't we? have you been taking a spelling course? or on medication? (you were always in such a hurry in your typing) No miracle cure; back then it was called "being 18 and having a life".

BrandoFan
Btw, Kotexboy = North??????????? Is "North" = "Mike North"? That guy is Roman of sports radio.... I remember him grilling some woman reporter with access to the Sox clubhouse about whether she "looks" while interviewing athletes in the dressing room area. He even hinted for her to give him a list of who is hung and who isn't... Absolutely priceless. (little did Pappy know we have our own HSC privy to alot more than we bargained for.) Harry Chappas
Einhorn is making all the day to day decisions, and Roland is Eddie's guy, a fine choice, too. I sincerely believe this thing will come around. I realize that nobody really knows the state of this organization right now and that scares the hell out of me. We are a ship without a rudder (is that spelling right,) and we have issues of marketable players that need to be signed or traded (Colon, Valentin, ) young arbitration guys, (Lee, Garland, Buerhle.) The more I read about KW being on the outside looking in the more I feel this organization is on its' way to the cellar fast. Colon needs to be locked up before the Yankees get in the picture via free agency. BTW, I am/was juicercruz on MLB Board and big defender of Frank. No, no, North is just a twerp, Jay Marriotti is 'KotexBoy' so named by David Wells, and fine representation of the mistake by the lake, Cleveland. And not resigning Wells was, IMO, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, mistake the White Sox/Kenny Williams have made in the past 10 years. If you resign him, you have no need to trade Ritchie, and you can then sweeten the deal with the Angels in the 2001-02 offseason and actually do bring in Darin Erstad, who then solidifies the CF position for a few years, and brings us a very, very good defensive CFer. Hindsight is always 20-20....but goddamn was that a big mistake. Did KW not see that or what?
Chisoxfn
But to resign Boomer the Sox would of had to pick up his option which was like eight million. There was no way he was going to join the Sox at a discount rate. If you recall he was going to sign with the Dbacks and agreed to a contract with them until Georgie Porgie stuck his nose win and got the Dbacks all pissed off at Wells and Porgie. Maybe corg can clarify this, but if I remember right, he was going to take a discount because he came in out of shape and pitched terribly....he said he wanted to come back and that Chicago was one of the few cities he wanted to pitch in. KW said no, and that was the end. I may just be remembering it wrong....but I thought that was how it happened.

YASNY
Corg. You have given me some food for thought on JR. I have liked JR for some reasons and disliked him for others. First, I feel the JR and EE saved the White Sox for Chicago when they bought them, but they scared the hell outta me with the stadium deal and the possibility of them become the "Florida White Sox". You said that JR doesn't want to be "liked" by the fans, that should be all about the team, in his opinion. That is all very commendable on JR's part. However, at times, it seems to me that he adversely influences the public's perception of himself. For example, the Carlton Fisk debacle during the playoffs vs. the Blue Jays. On one hand, by allowing Fisk to remain with the team till he broke the games caught record, though the team was in contention and Pudge was not producing, was a very classy move. On the other, I cannot understand why Pudge and Donn Pall were not allowed to visit the clubhouse that night. It seems like a total lack of respect for a guy that should have been in Cooperstown with "SOX" on his cap, instead of a "B". Fisk isn't the only example of a Sox player that has been disrespected by the team after their days in silver and black have come to an end. Jack McDowell, Lance Johnson and Robin Ventura immediately come to mind. I have theorized the JR doesn't approve of promoting the players themselves as opposed to the team. A "Players come and go, but the team is the thing." mentality, so to speak. Is this because if a player has become an "icon" on the southside, that they would be able to use that as leverage in contract negotiations? I'm not being critical of JR, here. I am legitimately asking these questions in hopes of getting some insight and more understanding of the thinking in the front office. The Sox exercised the buyout option, so anyone could've signed him, including us. I do believe David Wells is happy the way things worked out, he loves being a Yankee, but I truly believe he would have signed here, and meant what he said about owing us. That would've opened a whole different direction for the Sox, as pointed out. Buehrle benefitted from Wells, and I think others would have too. I am legitimately asking these questions in hopes of getting some insight and more understanding of the thinking in the front office. They did save the Sox for Chicago, and the 'threatened' Florida move was a complete sham. Does anyone really think two guys from the TV industry would move their club from the 2nd biggest city to one in the mid 20s? The idea had been done before and not much repurcussion in other cities, so JR and EE went along with it, as it was suggested as the only way to get the funding past the downstaters by one of Thompson's assistants. The mayor was key, insisting on the location, as Thompson didn't really care one way or another, and Jerry wanted the suburbs, Addison in particular. The Chicago media has all the fans still holding it against Reinsodrf, while most other owners in other cities are heralded for their moves, and two are building or have built newer parks since their last 'holdup'. I didn't say JR doesn't want to be 'liked' by the fans, everyone wants to be liked, I said that was least important to him and his view, not the priority. I love Carlton Fisk. But understand, Fisk is a real bastard, much like me. He can be nice, but has more fun pointing out how stupid someone is. Remember too that Fisk was a bit of a freak, as most catchers cannot squat after their 35th birthday. LaRussa tried to get him to play 1st base and left field, and he threw fits, and Schu tried too, just to help extend his career. Who knew the guy could still perform behind the plate at 43 years old? Nonetheless, JR and Fisk are fine now, they've mended fences, the one who treated Pudge the way you and so many objected to was Schueler. They hate each other. JR stayed out of it, backing his GM. If you are talking about the 2000 playoffs when Fisk was turned away, and a few others, that too was Schu. I have nothing good to say about Jack McDowell, I find him to be the most despicable individual I've met in baseball. Robin was, and still is a favourite, though I think Crede is gonna make us all forget Robin a bit before he's through. It is my opinion that Ventura was not worth the $6 million we were paying him, and not worth what he's gotten since, though I am happy for him that he got it. Favourite or not, there is a point of worth, and Robin was well past it. I'd say some fans put more importance on players than they deserve, and get caught up in that. JR has not only promoted Thomas, he's protected him. But do keep in mind that pro athletes are not always the most likable people behind closed doors.
