whitesoxfan101
Inge with a terrible play, then a really good one. Iguchi pulls the outside pitch on the ground, what a shocker.
SoxFan562004
no, see, DJ is giving the Sox hitters way too much of a pass tonight. Rogers is not "dealing" he is throwing it on the outside and they are trying to yank every single pitch. Granted he's smart for what he's doing but the Sox aren't even making any attempts to adjust tonight
cgaudin
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) i love sandy alomar! first he makes a dumb ass joke about AJ. second he's old and sucks. and third, he was supposed to be the 'savior' for the struggling pitching staff. haha what a joke. im sorry Widger wherever you are. It will be poetic justice if the Sox don't make the playoffs.

Chisoxfn
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) KW and Ozzie have a lot of pride in our main 5 starting pitchers, and they weren't going to trade them just to get rid of them. I know we joke about this, but Ozzie doesn't think nearly as highly about Cy McCarthy as a lot of people do on this site. Not at all. Kenny loves Brandon and well Ozzie doesn't. whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Ozzie doesn't think nearly as highly about Cy McCarthy as a lot of people do on this site. One in the long list of reasons he's not a good manager. Cy is better than anybody in this rotation not named Garland right now, and that's with the fact he's been screwed up by same manager Guillen with the inconsistent workload out of the bullpen. Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) McCarthy has been mediocre to crappy all season. I like him as much as the next guy, but Ozzie screwed him up and we would have been losing start after start while we waited for him to build up stamina only to hope he developed. Had we been smart, we would have seen this rotation sucking for two months (and this is on Ozzie) went with Tracey as the long guy and moved Bmac down to AAA where he could have been starting late in May or June and getting ready as a precautionary move if the rotation didn't get rolling. I never much approved of McCarthy's role from the beginning. Relief pitchers, aside from a few rarities, frequently use one or two pitchers during their outtings. It's difficult to consistently have the feel for your changeup or curveball when work is sporadic. Personally, I was an advocate of trading one of our starters while their stock was high last offseason and obtaining a bullpen arm/SP prospect. McCarthy would be in the rotation, our bullpen would have had another necessary component. Edited August 23, 2006 by Flash Tizzle

SoxFan562004
The Hawk and DJ have been a lot better about this lately, but they are not on the Sox hitters enough tonight. They are just completely ignoring Rogers 2nd half numbers. I have no doubt that if Rogers had this game plan against a team that would adjust to pitches he would be getting hit harder
whitesoxmanager
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That should be obvious. You can do that in the off-season, its impossible or nearly impossible to do that at the trade deadline. On a sidenote, sorry about being overly harsh, it wasn't really direct at you, rather I'm so sick of seeing a million posters seemingly thinking we could have done that. Fact of the matter is that wasn't an option. We could have tried to get Lidle and some other veteran (like a Greg Maddux) but I still don't think that makes this rotation acceptable. Plus we'd have been stuck with other starters. Our starting pitching staff proved to everyone last year their collective ability! OZ pushed the starters to go late in games. They did. Then we had a short off-season and still these guys have been pushed. What we are seeing are stud pitchers just dogass tired. The only remedy at this point is to give BMAC 6 starts before year end and give some of these guys some rest. OR get the starters to give a good 5/6 innings and then utilize what appears to be a major upgraded and untested bullpen. Then again I aint no COOP so I really dont know WTH I am talking about, but from what I see.....

SoxHawk1980
Yeah there's something really odd about Ozzie's use of BMac, and I don't get where the attitude comes from. Ozzie loves vets over young players. Ozzie remembers when he was an underappreciated veterna player (at least he thinks he was underappreciated). He thinks he should have gotten more respect and playing time because of all he had done in the majors. Now Ozzie shows his veteran SP's "respect" by continuing to trot them out there to the mound regardless of how poorly they pitch.
