That would mean that the Sox would still have to DL someone else in order to call him up prior to 9/1. But you'd think Ozuna would be that guy in the playoffs, unless (a) they view Ozuna as their primary right-handed pinch-hitter (could be); or (B) Ozuna's actually starting. In that event, of course, Podsednik would be on the bench. Anyway, if the Sox make the playoffs, I'm not sure carrying a pinch-runner is a luxury they can afford unless they were to leave a pitcher or Gload off. I guess they could go with 10 pitchers. But I also think they may just want some insurance against their funk-ridden, defensively challenged lead-off man. Not sure Owens is that guy, but who knows? He's a great situational hitter, can play numerous positions (not well, but at least he's an option), and is the fastest guy on the team. According to my source, they didn't have to send anyone down for him. Owens is now being paid the MLB minimum though, so congrats to him.
