SoxHawk1980
HE'S NOT HURT. If he were hurt they wouldn't let him pitch. They've invested too much in him to allow this to get worse by throwing him out there every five days. Enough already. It's between his ears, he loses confidence. We should've traded for El Duque to keep him company and straighten him out. Neither you nor any of us know if Count is hurt. You can't say, however, that if he were hurt, he wouldn't be pitching. By this point in the season, most pitchers, especially veterans are hurting. A season's worth of strain on a throwing arm gives some degree of pain. He almost certainly doesn't have a serious injury, but I bet he's in some pain and that pain is affecting his pitching. Therefore it would make sense to DL him and pitch McCarthy. The Ginger Kid
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) Then why does every article state that Ozzie keeps asking him if he's injured? because every reporter asks the same question after every contreras start. and if thome wants to win a ring he better start playing like it. fathom
If we're not careful, we might have the Red Sox within a few games of us again. Ortiz is likely to return for our game on Monday, so they should have a lot of intensity and I believe we face Schilling.

southsideirish71
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) HE'S NOT HURT. If he were hurt they wouldn't let him pitch. They've invested too much in him to allow this to get worse by throwing him out there every five days. Enough already. It's between his ears, he loses confidence. We should've traded for El Duque to keep him company and straighten him out. It is not his confidence. For years Jose has been an over the top pitcher only. Last year when El Duque showed up, he told Jose to pitch like a cuban which means add the other arm angle to make it harder to hit. This year he started out and was hitting 97 consistantly in a game in Texas when he dominated. Now check out his radar gun. His velocity is down. When Jose came in the league he was afraid of contact. He would throw his forkball only. Last year he threw his fastball first and then used his forkball for an out pitch. Now he cant get on top of his forkball because he is sailing it. When you throw side arm you have to follow through. If you stop shortly the ball sails. sliders flatten out, curves hang. CYGarland
I wonder if Thome's wrist is still be bothering him, because he has completely lost his power stroke. If that's the case then the Sox should have left Gload in there, and gave Thome another week off before we head into critical series against LA, OAkland, and Detroit Edited September 2, 2006 by CYGarland
The Critic
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) and if thome wants to win a ring he better start playing like it. If Thome can't run at all (and judging from that tip-toe double play tonight, he can't), I'd almost prefer Mack at DH and Brian in CF for a few games to let the leg heal a little more. SoxHawk1980
are we really that f***ing bad? Sometimes we are. Too often. Way too frequently for a stretch run. We aren't playing like we really want to get into the playoffs. Haven't been playing like that for many months.

southsideirish71
Can we have the first half AJ back. We have one guy hit the ball the other way, and he gets on. The rest pull it and are out. CY Runnynose keeps pitching us low and away. Why doesnt the guy with the video and pitching charts come down and say....Uh guys Runnynose is pretty much throwing you all low and away. You might want to think about that before you hit it to the SS again.
