GasHeGone
...we won the World Series last year. That was awesome. If you're pissed about tonight's game against KC, watch 1) Konerko slam 2) Pod's walk-off 3) Uribe crowd catch and 4) final out. It makes me so happy. greg775
That all makes me happy, too. But probably speaking for 99.9 percent of the people on here, we want another crown. It ain't every year you are in the race in September. You gotta take advantage of that.
Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(GasHeGone @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) ...(Remember when) we won the World Series last year. That was awesome. Whether intentional or not, the title and first line made me think of Chris Farley's sketch on SNL where he'd interview guests on his talk show. Back to the topic, I'm never using the World Series title as a crutch for failure. Not that it's realistic to expect a title everyyear, but considering the money and resources devoted to this years team, a playoff birth should be anticipated. Just fast-forward past Podsednik's pathetic helium-balloon throw to home to allow the tying run to score, setting up his walk-off. Sorry, I know I'm pissing on the parade, but I'm just SO down on Podsednik right now...
cgaudin
Like I said before, Fans want a contender. I for one call this season a success already. I've been glued to the TV the entire summer, and although I've had to down some hefty doses of pepto-bismol on ocasion, the product on the field has been superlative. The Sox have kept us on our toes and teeming with anxiety, hoping for another post-season run. As fans, you can't ask for anthing better. It would be unrealistic for any of us to expect a WS title every year. What I do expect is a well-constructed assembly of players who will give us something fun to watch night in, night out. I wish the Sox make the post-season every year, but that's not gonna happen. I just hope they are in the mix until the last couple of days of the season. Now, having said that, I felt this team had a very good probability of running away with the Central. The Sox pitching underachieved as a staff way beyond our worst expectations, yet they are still alive. Imagine having a pitching rotation performing like last year's Sox. They would likely have the Central wrapped up by now. That's how strong this team is. Crappy pitching, yet still very much in contention. Things like the Yankees run I don't see happening again in the near future. Too much talent out there and owners willing to spend more to get it. Every fan should get to enjoy what we did last year.
