elrockinMT
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Critical game, why not give a start to a AAA guy. Sweeny is probably the only one that can actually field his position out there in place of JD. we can ill afford to lose jermaine Dye so I hope this is just a one-day rest. beck72
If Dye can't go, start the best defensive Rfer. If it's Sweeney, which is probable, play him. MAck can't hit LHP anyway.
bigredrudy
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Have you seen Sweeney's splits in AAA? You would think you would want to put one of your top prospects in the best position to succeed starting out. Ryan Sweeney is my favorite White Sox prospect. I just think its asking an awful lot of a kid to basically begin his major league career playing the toughest RF to defend in baseball, in a pressure packed game, facing a left hander, something he has had problems with. If the White Sox had another right handed OF who could actually play RF, there is no way Sweeney would start tonight. What are Sweeney's splits and where did you get them? Thank you for your response.

Greg The Bull Luzinski
No reason that Sweeney should not be our starting LF the rest of the year, ... except the fact that Ozzie is stubborn as a mule.
beautox
Nice work Ryan, 2-3 with a K, only 2998 more to go , hopefully he will be leading off for the sox next year, or maybe move to right and move dye to LF.

irishsoxer
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:34 AM) All the best to him if it's indeed the case; Nice one genius. Sox get 4 hits tonight - Sweeney has 2 of those hits -goes 2-3 in his first game ever and HE knows how to run the bases unlike our 2nd Basemen. Get real. This guy is for real. Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) Sweeney will be starting on Wednesday night. I just wish it was in LF, with a healthy Dye in RF sandwiching our fine defensive CFer. That would be a nice change to have the best defensive alignment we could muster, and an arm in LF that stops runners from running at will. cgaudin
He showed enough last night where I say dump Podsednik this very instant. The kid looked absolutely at ease and very poised, as if he's played in the bigs for a while now. Oh, and did you notice he actually hit a left-handed pitcher? What a novelty. The playoffs are over as far as I'm concerned. Let's see what the kids have so we have something to go on for next season. Trust me, we ain't catching the Twins. We just don't have it this year. southsider2k5
I just loved the spark that he played with last night. As dull as the play was last night, he really stood out, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a few starts in a row, just as an example of the type of play we need right now. GoSox05
I cant wait till this kid is starting. 21 or 22 years old and he looks like hes been in the league for 10 years. People will say he dosent have the power, but you know after this year. I want a guy who hits for good average, above average fielding, solid base running. Ill take all that for only 15-20 HR's a year.

We have alot of power hitters, and pull hitters. One thing we lack is a true grinder. Sweeney showed last night that he would be valuable as he almost saved the game and got us a run if Crede hadnt hit into a DP.

How ironic is it that Sweeney seemed to be the one playing care free on the field, while the core guys are extremely tight?

And it was really obvious last night... All the "quit" garbage is just that, garbage. These guys are beat up, exhausted, and tight. All of these guys are trying to take it all on their own backs, and baseball games just aren't won that way. You have to be relaxed and staying within your abilities, and the only guy that seemed to be there last night was Ryan Sweeney.
