CSF
The Score is reporting that the Sox sent Jenks back to Chicago with some form of hip injury. McDougal's taking over the closer role for now. Guess that could possibly explain yesterday.

SABR Sox
The MacDogual trade looks even better right now. Just out of curiosity, even though Jenks has only 3 BS, would anyone prefer seeing Mac in the closer's role?
southsideirish71
QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) The MacDogual trade looks even better right now. Just out of curiosity, even though Jenks has only 3 BS, would anyone prefer seeing Mac in the closer's role? Up until the fatman gets healthy, then its back to Bobby in the 9th. Jenks has 39 saves this year, and only 3 blown. Thats as good of production at the end of a ballgame as you get from the sox over the years. Just out of curiosity, even though Jenks has only 3 BS, would anyone prefer seeing Mac in the closer's role? Uh No. Bobby has been fantastic this year, it'd be ridiculous to take him out of the closers role. Anyways, this year just keeps getting better and better huh? SABR Sox
Lol, all right I get the picture. In all fairness Jenks doesn't have the nicest peripheral stats, but has been used in some of the highest leverage situations, and simply put, he's got it done. Although it would be nice to see Macdougal in there now and then if he can pitch like he did in 2003.
beck72
It's not on the sox site
TLAK
Rongey just said Hermanson's in the pen tonight. As to Jenks, I think it best to get him 100% checked out and NOT send him out there with a sore hip so he can hurt his arm.
Whitewashed in '05
Even if its precautionary this still sucks... So now we have Thome, Dye, and Jenks with some problems...

G&T
I'd rather have Thornton as the closer. MacDougal gets into too much trouble every time he comes in. He gets out of it generally, but I don't know if it will work in the closer's role.
Dick Allen
Yet another reason the Sox should regret losing very winnable games up until now and thinking they can wait until the last couple of weeks to turn it on. Jenks will continue to incur injuries if he doesn't take better care of himself. Hopefully fitness will be a priority for him this offseason. He will regret all the money he cost himself and his family if his habits don't improve.

Well Mac has closing experience, so I assume that's why he's getting the opportunity. Edited September 5, 2006 by Rowand44

Pretty damn presumptious to assume that Jenks incurred this injury because of a lack of fitness We don't even have a report as to what type of injury it is

Jenks is the closer, but when you are hurt and not pitching 100% you go with someone who is adn in this case it's probably McDougal Edited September 5, 2006 by elrockinMT
Dick Allen
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Could be a bone, tendon, muscle, a number of things He threw 100 mph when he signed with the Angels and that was 40-50 pounds ago. He should consider getting down to 240 this offseason. His fastball will be fine, and he will put a lot less stress on all his joints.
