End of Season Scenario

My end of season prediction at this point is as follows:

The Twins are supposed to get Liriano back this weekend, and will proceed to win this division going away. This team has a recent history of playing well in September. In fact, I think they will clinch prior to the last series of the season, so the three games that the Same have against the Twins will not mean diddly to the Twins. Meanwhile, the White Sox and Tigers will be fighting for the wild card spot. The question for the Twins will be, do they want to set their rotation for the playoffs and hold back Santana and Liriana, or do they want to stick it up our giggy and try to knock us off completely?

It may be a blessing in disguise if the Twins do go on a tear and salt the division away early. The Tigers look hapless, and our schedule does not look favorable for us to go on an extended win streak.

After reading Morneau's comments, I'm sure that they'll just roll over and not try against us.

I know this is some of that great sarcasm, but Morneau isn't their manager.

However, things would have to seperate A LOT more for any team to be worrying about setting up rotations, etc.

I think Morneau reflects what the entire team thinks about the Sox though. This thread does bring up a good point, about how maybe we could luck out with Santana not pitching that final wknd if they're already in.

You know, in a twisted way, I'd rather face Liriano or Santana.

If we lose, which is inevitable, atleast it's against the best.

I couldn't look at the Whtie Sox the same way if we were eliminated from post season contention becaue BOOF f***ING BONSER shut us down. And you damn well know he'd do it.

the sox need a 4 game lead in whatever going into that series

I highly doubt we will have a 4 game lead on Minnesota, let alone Detroit, going into that last series. If anything we will have a 1 game lead at best, and just hope to win at least 1 of those games........But as i look at the schedules right now between the 3 teams, this is how i see the season ending out.......For the Sox. 2-1 vs La, 1-2 vs Oakland, 2-1 vs Detroit, 3-1 vs Seattle, 2-1 vs Cleveland, and 1-2 vs Minny...That would give them a record of 93-69.......For Minny. 1-2 vs Oakland, 3-1 vs Cleveland, 2-1 vs Boston, 2-1 vs Baltimore, 3-1 vs KC and 2-1 vs Us. That would give them a record of 96-66, giving them the Division title IMO....For Detroit...1-1 vs Texas, 2-1 vs Batimore, 1-2 vs Us, 0-1 vs Baltimore, 1-2 vs KC, 1-2 vs Toronto, and 2-1 vs KC.....That would give them a record of 94-68 and winning the WC by the skin of their teeth........So basically it definitely will come down to that last series against Minny, and hopefully Gardenhire rests some of his regulars and we can win at least 2 of 3, to force a possible 1 game playoff against Detroit, or even sweep to win the WC. Either way, it's going to be quite the nail biter that last weekend, to say the least.......

I don't see Gardenhire resting any of his position players if the Twins have already clinched the division. Obviously he wouldn't start Liriano or Santana, which would be nice.

That 3 game series won't mean anything one way or the other when it comes around. If we don't go 6-3 in our next 9 games against LAA, OAK, and DET we are going to see the wheels fall off quickly. If we win 6 or more of those games we'll pass up the Twins and Tigers and ride into the post-season.

Or we go 5-4 and the two teams ahead of us go 4-5. Or any one of a billion other scenarios.

I believe it's going to be a meaningless series by that point. I don't see this team picking up ground, I see them losing ground. Amazing, the starting pitching has come around at the exact perfect time, just to get wasted by the pen.

And by weak offensive performances.

That shutout in Boston was the worst game of the year for me.

Uggghhhh. The Twinks are going to do to us, what we did to the INDIANS last year.

We have wasted game after precious game ......... The SOX should be 6 games ahead in 1st ........

good let them start Liriano and Santana against us. Then they can get swept out of the playoffs using their crappy back end of the rotation.

If the twinks don't fissle with the rotation, we're due to see Liriano, Bonser and Santana on the final weekend.

fiddle! Not fissle.

If the Twins have wrapped up a playoff spot come that Sunday, Santana won't be pitching in that game. We will see Liriano no matter that Friday.

Detroit has KC for six games. Hopefully, they can be a pain to them as they were to us and the Twins.

yea i saw that on the schedule and was pissed off until i realized KC is playing one hell of a spoiler so far in 2nd half. look what they did to Boston, Minny and us? If they can do that to 3 of the top offensive clubs in baseball then they can sure beat the struggling Tigers or at least split with them.

If Minnesota has the division clinched they'd be fools to start Liriano and Santana against us with the playoffs starting that Tuesday. That being said, I'd be flattered if Minnesota rated the Sox that high that they're rather screw up their playoff rotation to beat us. If I'm the Twins, it's a no brainer that Santana is the Game 1 and Game 4 starter. Liriano would be 2 and 5. If they want one of those guys to start Game 3, and have Garza or the injured Radke or Silva pitch games 1 or 2, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot.
