Dick Allen
This year has been a total waste for McCarthy. He was not used properly, and may cost him a successful career. I think he would be so much better off on a roster where Ozzie Guillen doesn't call the shots.

I couldn't imagine suffering through this tragedy of a season alone. I love all of you. I agree...this site has been great lately. Kinda like with DJ, it takes the rough stretches to bring out the best analysis on this site. I've been impressed that there haven't been too many arguments on this site lately. Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) This isn't meant for you, but people have to stop comparing McCarthy to guys like Santana, Verlander, etc. Comparisons are unjust in the department, obviously. For me, it's to a point where you look at this future rotation against division rivals and wonder how we're going to compete. Tigers throw out -- Miller, Bonderman, Verlander in 08' Twins throw out -- Garza, Santana, Liriano in 08' How do we match this? We may potentially face these pitchers more than 15 times a season. It will come to a point where blue chip SP prospects better emerge, or quality starters better be acquired via trade/FA signing, if we want ANY chance of competing in the next several seasons. Now, any of you can point out Liriano's injury problems, but I'd rather assume he'll be available and do our best to compensate for his value. The Critic
I just got back from the wake. The body looked so natural, it almost still seemed to be alive. It was weird to see it so lifeless and still, when I remember how vibrant and full of energy and hope it used to be. I was saddened by it, but I'll always have my memories of the good times we shared. The time for has passed, and I've accepted that the 2006 season is over. Congrats to the Twins and Tigers, and good luck to the A's in the playoffs. An Oakland/St. Louis World Series would be the most acceptable to me. Now is the time to look ahead, and if that means playing the kids to get a better idea of what they might be able to against big league opponents, I'm all for it. Might as well wave the white flag - the regulars seem to have beaten us to it anyway.

CWSGuy406
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:35 AM) I agree...I can only imagine how short the leash will be on him if he is a starter. Am I the only one who wouldn't be surprised if Garland is the pitcher that Ozzie wants to see traded? I still can't see him getting rid of one of his buddies. I still think that Ozzie won't have as much 'pull' this offseason. I honestly believe that Kenny Williams is pretty pissed at a couple of things Ozzie has done this year, most notably how he has handled Anderson. I think Kenny saw what we all saw; a kid who was struggling at the plate, but who wasn't necessarily hurting the team because his defense was so strong. And then trying to turn Anderson/Mackowiak into a full platoon, when Anderson had been one of the Sox best hitters (I'm talking about a month ago), not to mention the defense. Maybe you think I'm foolish for saying this, but I'm 99% confident that Kenny will have a hold on what he wants done this winter, without Ozzie's ravings for Juan Pierre at $10 million per meaning a thing. I really just want this offseason to get there, quick. I like a lot of players on this team, but I hate this 'team' overall. Kenny can go in so many different directions. (BTW, I am aware that at this point, this post probably belongs in that other thread, but I'm not stopping here, so...) I think I'd prefer a 'retooling' offseason. Realize that Detroit, Minny, and even Cleveland are here, and there here for the long haul. This team, OTOH, might have just lost it's window by failing this season. Give Sweeney the reigns of LF with Anderson in CF; improve your defense. Maybe look for a new SS. Maybe look to get younger at second base. I almost hate to say it, but if someone still likes Konerko big-time, maybe Anahiem or Baltimore (last years bidders), see if you can find a deal there. Garcia is obviously gone. That doesn't mean giving up on 2007 altogether, but I'd try to do it the way we did it in 2005, starting with a top-notch defense. I think the pitching staff will rebound. This winter isn't the time to 'sell' on Mark Buehrle. Plus, it's on Kenny's MO to sell low. I don't think Mark is going anywhere. I think a winter of rest for Contreras will do him a lot of good. I like what I'm seeing from Vazquez, and I think all the people hoping to see him get traded are dreaming; he's not going anywhere after only one season. You gotta hope Garland has a better first half with improved control and a better defense, and that McCarthy can regain his touch that he had last September. Wow, long post. SoxHawk1980
No way they (the Indians) suck as bad next year. The central is gonna be brutal next year. It sure as hell will. Detroit isn't going to be this good again, but they'll still be good. The Twins will continue to be good, maybe even better. Cleveland will be considerably better. Even the Royals will be better (not good, but we can count on fewer automatic wins against them).
