How can someone who has post ASB splits of .285/.327/.439 have terrible at bat's after terrible at bat's?

Aaron Rowand for comparison's sake last season put up a .270/.329/.407 line last season. So that means in the 2nd half of this season, Brian Anderson has hit better than Aaron Rowand did last season. And yet I didn't hear Ozzie complain about Aaron Rowand's AB's.

What about Juan Uribe? Wouldn't you say he has terrible AB's after terrible AB's?

Brian Anderson has a .189 batting average with runners in scoring position and 2 out (37 AB 8 RBI). In 2005 Aaron Rowand hit .354 in the same situation (65 AB 27 RBI). In my view, situations like this is what Ozzie is talking about when he says quality at bats. A good player has to rise to the occasion, regardless to his overall stats, when the game is on the line.

He was asked about BA and his hitting. Not about Uribe. Not about Pods. Maybe the media doesn't like BA and likes Uribe and Pods. It's not like he is going around telling people that he didn't like BAs Abs this year. He was asked if he liked his at bats and he said no. I'm sure BA would say the same thing. As TLAK posted above, even when he started hitting better he wasn't driving in any runs.

BAs D is great, but we need him to hit much better next year. Hopefully it'll be a sophomore breakout.

I said Uribe has been terrible all year im pretty sure that would count. Remember the guy asked him about BA not Uribe or Pods or whatever else is wrong with this team. Just because BA has hit .285 doesn't mean he has helped us any. His average got better but he isn't a real threat at all. Half of his at bats he just gets overmatched and doesn't even have any fight at all. Good morning, good afternoon, and good night! Not good quality at bats at all......again why the man love for a guy hitting .233 with an obp of .299 with 7hr and 32 rbis......plus 81 ks in 335 ab's.....yuck if this is what makes you happy then we deserve to be a third place team!

Royce Clayton was able to play great defense and batted just like Anderson and yet he was run out of town......get off the golden boy already!

I'm a large BA supporter, but I'm sort of in the middle here. BA hasn't been that good with the bat when you look at the season as a whole, and I think Ozzie is doing that. If thats the case (which it likely is), then saying that he's not happy with how Brian has done this year is valid.

On the other hand, BA has made tremendous strides since the start of the year, all while playing spectacular defense. In that sense, BA has had a successful season. His post ASB splits are impressive for someone who hit below .200 for the first few months of the year, and while they're no Jim Thome or Jermaine Dye, they are better than what Rowand put up last year.

Look at these great numbers.......

Anderson with 0-2 count batting .097 31 ab's at 0-2 struck out 18 times

Anderson with 1-2 count batting .164 55 ab's at 1-2 struck out 34 times

Anderson with 2-2 count batting .143 42 ab's at 2-2 struck out 21 times

Anderson with 3-2 count batting .211 19 ab's at 3-2 struck out 8 times

Leads off an inning batting .185

Batting with a runner on second .208

Batting with a runner on third .111

Batting with first and second .188

Batting with first and third .200

Batting with bases loaded .000

Batting with men on and 2 out .190

Batting with runners in scoring pos with 2 outs .189

Batting with runners in scoring pos season .208

The only two situations he batted well were with second and third and with man on third and less then two outs!

Had the Sox not been playing so well in June in spite of his lack of production, I seriously believe they would've sent him down to Charlotte. Instead, Ozzie made the decision to stick with him. It was a bad decision and to argue otherwise is to be blindly loyal to a young player we all hope turns into a star some day.

And now show how many AB's he's had in each situation, and tell me why samples that small should really be looked that far into.

So funny that the sox lead the league in BA with runners in scoring position, and many of you are still trying to debate that the offense is the real issue here.

Heres a clue to why we wont make the playoffs

At risk of becoming Al Gore here laying things out for a first grader, it only makes sense that criticism of BA would be the focus of the interview. Ozzie was replying to a "what if" question regarding keeping Frank Thomas and not trading for Thome. The guy they traded for Thome was Rowand who was replaced by BA. He is not going to fault a veteran like Thome, no matter how much he has sucked in the 2nd half. BA is going to catch the brunt here. He is a rookie and has had some terrible stretches at the plate. No matter how we spin Rowand's offensive numbers, overall he drove in some key runs and had a better approach at the plate, despite how the numbers compare on paper. To me it comes down to the fact that Rowand, Uribe, and Podsednik played significant roles on a World Champion. They are veterans who carry a special place in the hearts of many fans. They are not going to catch the amount of heat from Guillen as BA would this year. Further, Ozzie has called out Uribe and Podsednik on multiple occassions throughout the season anyway. This was just not the forum for it.

Get out of here with your logic and your facts! Everyone know the reason the Sox suck this year is Jim Thome and his BARELY over 1.000 OPS, and the fact that it took the Sox until August to put Dye in the 3-hole. I mean jeez, where is the 1000 run mark?

1. Starting Pitching

2. Lack of hustle/energy (could also be pain and being tired)

3. Ozzie's bizarro position placement

4. Ozzie's bizarro pitcher treatment

5. Bullpen inconsistency

Somewhere after those 5, you get into some offensive problems, like having a crappy leadoff hitter, poor execution on the basepaths and with bunting, etc. But our offense, in general, was NOT the big problem this year.

Samples that small? Thats about every single situation there is.....How should they not be looked into any further.....he simply hasn't been good and there isn't any reason for Ozzie or anyone else to say he has been......here is a list of everything for you to look at.....if this looks good to you then you don't know what good is......

"Am I happy with Brian? Well, not really," Guillen said. "I thought he would be better, at least give me better at-bats. I didn't expect him to hit .350, but I expected him to give me better at-bats."

I see no problem with that, agree with it, and think the ba-luvers are once again being way too sensitive and blowing it out of proportion. :huh

Our manager sucks thats why......I would have loved Gload in left and Cintron at short and leading off but that would have been too easy....We need to platoon fast speedy guys in left that can't hit, field or even steal anymore just so we can pretend we have a leadoff hitter......and Ozzie's love for Uribe is down right sick!

Is there a reason why Cintron can't play SS and Gload can't play LF?

I personally think that may be something to consider in 2007, in both cases.

Save money on the payroll - give Gload and/or Pablo a shot in LF, at least for 2007 (Sweeney or Owens might be ready in 2008). Use the money for a SS who gets on base and can lead off. Bat Gload/Ozuna 2nd, move Gooch down the order. Other than that (SS and LF), I say leave the offense as is.

Cintron leading off huh? His OBP is worse than PODs, who you love to say sucks.

Pick a leadoff hitter out of the bunch then......I just threw that out there because the guys we have aren't doing the job....

Unfortuanately none of this is even going to matter because it will never happen. If it didn't happen all year it won't start now or next year. They will probably overpay for Juan Pierre so Ozzie can have his new speedy leadoff guy that can barely get it out of the infield and can't throw in the outfield at all!

One last thing Pods gets paid to be a leadoff hitter and to have a good OBP and to steal none of which he can do anymore.....Cintron has never been in that situation so maybe he could improve on it.....We already know Pods can't!

Little bit of fun here.

Brian Anderson hit .161 in April, .167 in may, and .191 in June. Post All Star, he has hit .285.

In the 2nd half, Rob Mackowiak has 80 at bats. He has hit .250 in those at bats, almost Podsednik territory.

Just for fun, I figured I would like to know what would have happened had Ozzie shut up and Played Anderson almost every game in CF after the break except for the occasional day off or late inning pinch hit situation. So if I were to give Anderson another 80 at bats in the 2nd half...if his 2nd half numbers were to go unchanged (and not improve with even more experience), here would be his season line:

.245 batting average, .300 OBP.

Considering how bad he started off, that wouldn't be a bad season at all.

Ozzie likes Pods, Mack in CF, and keeps playing Uribe, but can't stop b****ing about BA and no beer in the clubhouse. I simply am dumbfounded by him.

Those numbers are very similar to what Joe Crede, Juan Uribe, and Carl Everett had LAST YEAR (and none of them started as bad as BA). Would somebody tell Ozzie that.

If we told Ozzie that...we'd wind up with Carl Everett in CF instead of Mackowiak.
