chimpy2121
QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 06:06 AM) IMO the SEC will be the best basketball conference in the nation this year...7 teams IMO will make the tourney from that conference(Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and LSU) Sure, the BEast might match that, but there are also going to be that large amount of extra mediocre teams. So, IMO, top to bottom, I think the SEC will be the best. The ACC can be right there too. Duke, UNC, BC, GT, FSU, UVA, and one of Maryland, Wake, Clemson, or VT. greasywheels121
95-50 was the final score of our first exhibition game against ND today. Sampson got more pissed and did more coaching today than I ever saw Davis do (with the exception of Kentucky in Dec. 2002). We had six in double figures, and the defense looked stellar. I think Bassett's going to see some substantial time off the bench this year; he's been impressive in everything I've seen him do so far. And BTW, ND = North Dakota. CWSGuy406
Marquette beat Cardinal Stritch, 99-70. Hurray. Wes Matthews was the best out of MU's guard trio. James and McNeal looked a little rusty. McNeal specifically had some mistakes (only one turnover in the box score -- I would've guessed at least one more). I also worry about how they'll match up against teams like Pitt and Georgetown, ie teams with dominant big men, as Marquette doesn't have one guy who can guard a guy like Gray straight up. That said, the on-the-ball defense from the Marquette guards was extremely impressive. Those guys (mainly McNeal and James, but including Cubillan off the bench) are going to create some havok for any teams that don't have a reliable point guard. Sound slike defense was good but only scoring 61 irks me. No I didn't, I was in Champaign all weekend for the OSU/Illinois game. Ya, we haven't really been impressive so far in these games but they are exhibitions. Tatum hasn't played and supposedly Lowery really isn't using an offense yet, just letting them play, so both of those are obvious factors on the offensive side of things. Hopefully things will start to click within the next few games.

Buehrle>Wood
CvC Preview and Predictions Austin Regional Texas over Alcorn State St. Bonaventure over Chicago State Texas over St. Bonaventure Texas should have no trouble at all advancing to New York. Alcorn State will get absolutly routed in the first game by the Longhorns. The 2nd game features two of division one's worst programs. St. Bonaventure will likely win out simply because they are used to playing against better talent. Then it is their turn to get beat down by Texas. East Lansing Regional Michigan State over Brown Central Michigan over Youngstown State Michigan State over Central Michigan Again, it looks like the promoters did not want any mid-major to pull a St. Mary's and actually advance to New York. Michigan State has been matched-up against an Ivy League team to satrt, a very poor one at that. Then they should get Central Michigan, a bottom tier MAC school. The Spartans will advance rather easily. New York Regional St. John's over North Florida Loyola(Md) over Navy St. John's over Loyola(Md) Ahhhh! I'm sick of these terrible teams! The CvC Classic used to be a nice showcase for some good low-major teams. This year, not so much. Again, the power conference school should have no trouble advancing(or in this case, staying) in New York. Loyola, coming off their first winning season in a decade, may be able to cause some trouble, but even that is unlikely. College Park Regional Vermont over New Orleans Maryland over Hampton Maryland over Vermont Ok, now this is better. In the first game, Vermont should take down New Orleans, although it could be close. Both are expected to finish at the top of their conferences. In the second, Maryland should have no trouble with Hampton, which will set-up an interesting game between the Terrapins and Vermont. Despite being the mid-major that they are, Vermont should be able to trouble Maryland a little. I'm not sure if they can pull off a victory, but it will be close. Championship Rounds Semi-Finals Texas over Michigan State This should probably be the championship game, even though both of these teams are putting out weaker squads than what they are used too. This could also be Kevin Durant's break-out party. Michigan State has no one on their roster to match-up with him, and if he goes off, look out. Durant could single handedly take over the game for the Longhorns. Overall though, this is a very tough game to call. Semi-Finals Maryland over St. John's Maryland should not have too much trouble with the Red Storm. What will be interesting to see is if St. John's can get any sort of homecourt advantage behind the New York crowd. The match-up to watch in this game will be between Maryland's James Gist and St. John's Lamont Hamilton. 3rd Place Game Michigan State over St. John's Again I expect the New York crowd to go home dissapointed. Michigan State should give a lofty beat down to the Red Storm. The most interesting thing to see in this gameis where the Spartans will get their offense from. Can Drew Neitzel finally become the complete offensive player that he was once projected to be? Me thinks not, but we will see. Championship game Texas over Maryland I expect another another Kevin Durant show. If this happens, the Longhorns will have no problem fighting off Maryland. I know some have high expectations for the Terrapins this year, but I just don't see it. Their still going to give up way too many points and this must be corrected if they want to beat the better teams. Also, last year they seemed to have some individualistic problems. Too many players trying to do their own thing. Will be interesting to see if this year they have finally corrected that.
