I love reading the trade rumor threads, because they usually spark interesting talk/debate about what would be best for the Sox, but I never, EVER, put any stock in the rumors.

I don't bother getting upset about a trade until it actually happens.

It's not like the Sox brass would read a message board and say "Uh oh, the Internet Sox fans don't like the deal, call it off!"

I wouldn't mind them trading Garland, I think he, like the other 4 starters are overrated. If they were the studs everyone makes them out to be, the White Sox wouldn't have finished in 3rd place in 2006. It would be an instance of selling high. I don't know much about the Rangers prospects, but KW supposedly loves their pitchers. If he gets a couple + the reliever, its really not a bad trade. You know when KW finally unloads a pitcher or 2, the others will probably spend some time on the DL, but this move gets the Sox some prospects, maybe improves the bullpen and frees up some money. I'd rather get rid of Vazquez or Garcia, but won't shed any tears if Garland is sent packing. His low strikeout rate indicates he's apt to start getting lit up. Its sure to net more than the last time KW traded him. I wonder if Ozzie's little blow-up with Garland has anything to do with him being gone, if in fact he does go. Ozzie didn't like how CLee slid into second-he gone. He was pissed at Tracey for not hitting a batter-he gone to Charlotte, and he was pissed at Garland for not hitting a batter-maybe he gone to Texas.

I think Garland and Vazquez are overrated on our staff. I think Contreras, Buehrle and Garcia are rated right where they should be or are a little underrated.

That's funny, cause I think it's the exact opposite.

That's funny, 'cause I think the exact opposite too.

I just think Javier "Good Periphals!" Vazquez and Jon "Most Wins in the Last Two Years!" Garland are overrated, in the former's case because he has a lot of makeup questions and hasn't had a bright season since Montreal ad Garladn because, well, he's a career 4 ERA guy, if he's lucky.

Garland has had 1 full season where his ERA has been lower than 4.51, although he has won 18 games each of the past 2 seasons.

Vazquez is a below .500 pitcher for his career. He's had a couple of good seasons playing in front of high school baseball sized crowds in Montreal, other than that he's been mediocre at best although he makes a lot of money.

Contreras had a great second half of 2005 and first half of 2006, other than that he hasn't been too reliable of a pitcher.

Buerhle has been great most of his career, but he was pounded the second half of the season. There has to be some cause for concern. Its no lock he returns to his previous form.

Garcia lost a lot of velocity and was pretty crappy in 2006 before a hot streak in September made most of his numbers fairly respectable. I am one thinking if he doesn't get his velocity back, his September mastery is a mirage, and considering everyone who gets on base against him is almost a lock to be in scoring position eventually...........

They all have some serious issues. A couple of them will probably bounce back, and a couple will most likely falter even more. Hopefully KW picks the correct one to move.

Hello from Germany, everyone. Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to Thanksgiving.

Interesting if true. Otsuka and prospects (and Young too, amirite?) would be a good deal if Garcia would be heading to Texas, but not with Garland. If we somehow were to receive Young as well as prospects for Garland, would everyone be happy with the trade? Just throwing it out there.

Also, Rotoworld has a report saying some rival GM said that Garland could be traded soon.

Danks immediately becomes our #1 pitching prospect if we get him. I would do whatever I could to land him...wouldn't mind nabbing Thomas Diamond either (he's in AA right now I think), but that's probably too much bounty to get.

I am perplexed at the mention of TWO RELIEF righties...Otsuka, Mac and Jenks???? If this deal goes down, Kenny isn't done...one of our closer-talent righties would be moved...considering the market for quality relief pitchers, it's not a bad idea to really corner the market there and then go load up somewhere.

I'd been stunned if KW moved any of relievers he would deem as quality pitchers. They want to get back to having a nasty bullpen. I think KW learned a lesson last offseason when he virtually blew off the bullpen.

I agree in part Dick...IF one of those boys were a lefty. The two RPs rumored to be coming from Texas are righties...I guess the thinking is Riske is gone and Masset could take his place, but who replaces Cotts? Otsuka is clearly better but is a righty. Do they think Logan can double up with Matt to hold the fort down from the left side? Would they maybe use Danks in relief the way they worked McCarthy (an idea I dont like)?

That is my only worry with this deal...In fact, if we could get CJ Wilson instead of Masset I'd probably like that deal more.

So what's the deal with Danks? I see he was their first round pick in '03 out of high school (9th overall). I also see he's a lefty and has a great K rate, but otherwise has only decent numbers throughout the minors. He's been borderline young at some of his stops so I guess they've pushed him hard, but can someone tell me what makes him a drool-worthy prospect?

I've got nothing against him, but the numbers aren't bearing out all the praise heaped on him.

His home run totals aren't great.

If Aardsma can join the pen then maybe that's a thought.

Re Danks: One of the best curveballs in all of minor league baseball from what I understand and he also throws with power...Maybe a nastier version of Barry Zito (in time).

He is also a 4 pitch pitcher...he is improving his sinker and has been working on a change-up to go with his 1 and 2. Danks would be easily our top pitching prospect, easily.

I'm not a fan of this supposed package -- especially if Anderson is included.

Danks I have no problem. I could understand Otsuka, even though I'd rather avoid him. But Massett?! What exactly do this organization see in him? Honesetly, I'd rather Texas hold onto Otsuka and give us additional SP prospect. Don't like the idea of only obtaining one for Garland.

I will be disappointed unless Michael Young is part of the trade. Garland is the Sox most valuable pitcher right now when you consider contract length, injury risk, and history of sucesss. Trade Garland and Anderson and you better get an all star back. I don't care if Danks is supposed to be the next Steve Charlton. Supposed to be doesn't cut it for a young 2 time 18 game winning pitcher with a ring. KW is a very good GM. I hope he remembers how difficult it was to assemble that pitching staff and exercises due patience.

I know. It's just a rumor.

To be honest I can't see why Texas would give up Otsuka. Who's going to be their closer?

Even with his stellar splits against righties, is it worth paying 2+ million for a RH specialist? I can't just over his age, either.

It's as if Texas has learned a lesson from San Diego -- sell Otsuka high. National League hit him considerably better after his rookie season. They probably believe the American League will fare better the second year around, ala Shingo.

You have to be suspicious of Texas dealing pitchers who've proven themself capable of pitchign in Arlington. That's why I bit wearly of his inclusion in this trade.

Considering Garland's value, age, and the market for starting pitchers, it's not unreasonable to expect two good SP prospects and Massett (because the Sox seem to like him). This package for Garland hardly seems to be the blockbuster I'd expect from all the supposed teams calling Williams.

Rosenthall was asked by someone at fox where Frank was going to and said he was sure Frank was going to to stay in Oakland.

Yet another Rosenthall prediction gone bad.

Ill believe these rumors when I click on the Sox web site and see it for myself.

Wasnt Rosenthall also the reporter speculating on a Sox-Mets trade?

Enter Thomas Diamond? And John Danks? You'd have to make this move, but damn just wish it didn't have to be Garland.

If you want two prospects (and I do) you take Danks and Hurley. Hurley looks like he might be 6 months away from being one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, and better than Danks.

I'd take Hurley in the deal instead of including Otsuka.

You can always go out and sign Justin Speier in the FA market instead.
