redandwhite
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nobody's excited except you and SS71, and Uribe killed SS71's dog. There is no excitement here, the fact that Gonzalez is being signed for three years and a guaranteed fifteen million dollars makes me sick to my stomach. Nonetheless, it amuses me that in the last month Juan Uribe turns from the greatest thing since sliced bread to someone people are open about replacing with Alex Gonzalez. I suppose you do have your own blog on blogspot or blogger, so of course your opinion matters more than anyone else's, but it's interesting to note. If this guy wants to act like his opinion is the only one that matters and that he is the greatest sports journalist around, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm going to bring up the fact that he's as worthless in his sports journalism as you or I when he takes a jab at me. Uribe allegedly shot some people in the last month. Regardless of whether or not he is convicted, do you think that sticks in people's minds? The fact that he hit .230 last year won't help either, and his .700 OPS is not appreciated by all, and with good reason, because it is heavily influenced by his solid SLG%. This offense, by and large, had no problem driving the ball and getting XBHs. They DID have problem with getting runners on base ahead of those XBHs. Hence, people feel Uribe's replaceable. I completely agree with you, wite. I always liked what Uribe brought to the table in 2005, but in 2006 it was a different team. Whether or not having Anderson instead of Rowand in center made that much of a difference is moot, but having Anderson and Uribe back to back is a close second to the struggles the starting rotation had this season that was the ultimate downfall of the season. Gonzalez isn't much of an upgrade, but I'm all for some sort of a change at short.
witesoxfan
Just a thought...how much interest would Ricciardi have in adding, say, Uribe, Garcia, and another solid prospect?

redandwhite
I'm now drawing a blank slash unable to find where I read it, but apparently one of the reasons Frank Thomas was signed was to indicate to Vernon Wells that they were going to be a competitive ball club if he were to tag on for another 5-6 years. Well at least that's what I'm hoping, and that Kenny hasn't lost his touch. ^^^^^^ This would be our worst move in several years if we gave this loser 3/15. He's always been a poor starter though. The only thing that surprised me was that he stayed healthy enough to stay 15 homers ahead of Thome in the race to 500. If he is that healthy again this year, I'll be amazed. It's possible, but that artifical turf will be hell on his ankles.

RME JICO
Is it possible that this move it a setup for another larger move. If the Sox sign Gonzalez they will have a surplus at multiple positions where they would then control more of the market. They could package Gonzalez with a SP to a number of teams. If this is not a setup move, and Gonzalez is starting in place of Uribe in 2007, you have to question why the Sox would give him 3/15. knightni
They can't trade Gonzalez until June or July if they sign him as a free agent IIRC. This signals a move of Crede and/or Uribe if they sign Gonzalez.
Allsox
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 04:19 AM) Maybe Uribe is to be included in a package to Toronto for Vernon Wells... That's what I'm thinking now. Toronto needs a SS and a starting pitcher and if the Sox sign AGon, Uribe and Garcia for Wells would be a good start to trade negotiations. RockRaines
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) ^^^ Even if this is some sick display of sarcasm, its totally true. He is the worst hitter I've seen in a long time. Sure, his defense is pretty good (not GG caliber), but hes got one of the worst hitter's eyes in the league. Wow, saying he is not gold glove caliber pretty much makes the rest of your post moot. Uribe should have two GG's by now.
