YASNY
From the Sun-Times: Among the more interesting scenarios is a pitch that sources say the Los Angeles Angels made for right-hander Freddy Garcia, whom they highly covet. The Angels' deal would call for a package that includes right-hander Ervin Santana, who turns 24 on Dec. 12. I don't covet the idea of facing Freddy in the playoffs, but any package that includes Santana sure gets my attention. Here's the link. Scroll down, as it appears to be a blank page at first. beck72
Why the angels would get rid of Santana for freddy is beyond me. But it did say as part of a package [Josh Fields perhaps?] I'd take santana. Though with is name mentioned in a deal for Carl Crawford, moving him to TB would be hard to pass up. One thing is clear, that the sox should get a really good deal for one of their SP's.
alk3kevin
If you have the chance to land a young SP like Santana, you don't move him for Crawford. Having Brandon and Santana in the rotation would be wonderful. We'd also be able to deal another one of our overrated SP. I'll take Fields and Freddy for Macier and Santana. Capn12
If I'm presented with the opportunity to move Garcia for Santana, then I have to SERIOUSLY hold back my giddyness if I'm KW....I would be all ears at that idea, unless they started kicking around the wrong names to go with Garcia... Read again the way that is worded. Santana would be part of a package, not Garcia.
Capn12
Then frankly, someone tell me how to ring KW's cell phone, STAT!! That move is one I can't see anything bad come out of....I've got a bad taste in my mouth after shipping Cotts to the Flubs, but this would make me forget all about that. RME JICO
It looks like KW is going to move quick on some of these: "I think that's the byproduct of an over-inflated free-agent market," Chicago White Sox GM Kenny Williams said. "I think it prompts you to get serious in trade talks and explore trade opportunities quicker."
DBAHO
I really think something is going to get done with either the Angels, Mets or Rangers TODAY. And I would take Santana for Garcia, straight up. Santana would still be under our control for another 4 seasons, has great stuff, and just needs to develop more consistency to become a frontline starting pitching. But I wonder if the Sox could try to get Maicer Izturis or even Chone Figgins off the Angels hands here.

It seems like the teams are seeing what the FA pitching is going to cost and KW is getting a ton of attention from the other GMs. It should be interesting this week. southsider2k5
Wow. 6 months ago Anaheim wouldn't move Santana for anything, and how they are offering him AND other players for Freddy? Wow.

Wow. They always seemed to value "name" playes in LA of Annaheim over young, hot prospects.
Gregory Pratt
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 08:22 AM) Wow. 6 months ago Anaheim wouldn't move Santana for anything, and how they are offering him AND other players for Freddy? Wow. Well, I think they might be overpaying for a guy in his contract year, but we've seen this movie before when Kenny traded for Freddy. Frankly, I think Garcia is one of the better starters in the league, and I can't blame the Angels for wanting him. I'd imagine they'd try to extend him, and my guess is that they believe he'll be back in top form next year, something I believe, too, once he's had a full offseason since he's pitched so many innings in the last two years. Freddy's very undervalued, IMO, not just around the league but in his own city, too. I think the coolest thing the crowds at Comiskular did this year, though, was cheer his name in his last homestart against Seattle. (Needless to say, I'd love to have him back and deal one of the other four, and probably extend him, too. Ah, if only we lived in an ideal world.) Question: let's say the Sox deal Freddy for Santana. Anybody got a problem dealing, oh, Garland and Uribe for Young and a couple of pitching prospects? How about Cintron and Garland? Then we'd have a rotation that looks like, Buehrle Contreras Vazquez Santana McCarthy Frees up money and looks good to me. If we can land Santana, I think we should deal another pitcher. I'd rather deal Contreras than Garland (although Garland would make more sense for the Rangers), but yes, I'd love to get Santana and then spin off another starter in a deal for an offensive upgrade. I agree with all of this. It was no fluke the way Garcia was pitching at the end of the year. The one thing I won't miss is Freddie making every baserunner look like Ricky Henderson. That drove me nuts. Edited November 17, 2006 by ottawa_sox
chisox2334
Kenny has the advantage in any trade with one of our starting pitchers being it. Since free agency for cost of a start will be too high kenny will sell it off that whoever intrigues him the most will get one of the starters. shawnhillegas
I see Joe Crede as being part of this deal.... Crede and Freddy for Ervin and some serious prospects? Otherwise I just cant fathom a Santana for Freddy straight up deal; they must want Fields or Anderson as well.
AbeFroman
Just curious... When was the last time the Sun-Times, or any publication, speculated on a trade and then it actually happened? its like were chasing our tails here...
Harry Chappas
Outside of facing us wasn't Santana a little down last year as oppossed to the previuos year? I could be wrong but I thought he tappered off, again not agaisnt us.

Finkelstein
If we get Santana, I hope that Kenny has Tampa on the other line. My dream scenario would be to get Crawford without having to get rid of BMac.

He always pitches well against them.
